Nicole Alek'aq Colbert is the daughter of the late Drew & Grace Panik'aq Colbert. Nicole’s dad, Drew an African American from Little Rock Arkansas, always taught her to embrace her rich Alaskan Native heritage while her mom Grace, a Yupik Eskimo from Napakiak Alaska, taught her the beauty of living the traditional way. After the passing of both Nicole’s parents she has come to understand how important cultural identity is and has honored both of her parents as she clings to the morals and standards they instilled in her.
As a strong Alaskan Native woman Nicole understand the importance of leadership within the American Native communities and believes in living a lifestyle that will motivate others to walk along side her. In Nicole’s words “I feel accomplished. I feel accomplished not only as title holder but as a young Alaskan Native Leader. I understand that in all I have endeavored to do with my position it is important to see other Native leaders within all of our communities succeed in our positions as well so that our legacy can live on.”
Nicole is proud of both her Yupik Eskimo and African American cultures and encourages others to embrace their diversity as well.
"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." - Isaiah 9:6
