Artist's Statement: I am an multidisciplinary, self-taught artist. I was born in Mexico city, to a mixed family of Mexican Indigenous and Spanish working class people. In my childhood during visits to my father’s family around Xico, Veracruz in Mexico, I experienced the surviving Mayan, Olmec and Catholic cultures which exist in traditional farming and popular crafts that represent and express the life of the indigenous Mexican people. Later, I cultivated a sense of freedom to express my personal dreams and reality by immersing myself in indigenous cultures in the states of Oaxaca, Veracruz, Puebla, Michoacan and Tlaxcala. I grew up believing in and experiencing independent thinking, realizing that people are rich in resourcefulness in their own power for self-control. My paternal grandmother migrated from Xico, Veracruz to Mexico City before I was born, and I have continued this family experience with my own migration to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA ten years ago, where I have joined the diversity of lives and cultural exchanges of this city. In Mexico, a great emphasis is placed on the connection between human beings and the natural world. In 2007, I got my Aztec name “Tletxayacoatl” (The Snake with the Face on Fire) in a summer solstice ceremony in Chicago with Master “Ocelocoatl” (The jaguar & Snake) and Master “Xavier Quijas Yxayotl”. I also won a grant from The Institute for Cultural Partnership to learn how to make “Tlapizcalli” Clay flutes, with the Master “ Xavier Quijas Yxayotl”. This was the first time that I received some formal training in art. I have since tried on my own and I made a clay instrument called “Ehekachiktli” -The Dead Whistle- an instrument that has ancient religious significance.
My mission as an artist is to awaken the spirituality in the human mind through an approach utilizing the arts that emphasize a connection between nature and today's modern society. My artistic name BRUJO DE LA MANCHA was giving to me by my friends through my artistic development. My name, Brujo, means "witch" in Spanish. Because transformation is a magic power that humans have inside, I encourage people to focus on the present, to recycle and embrace what they have around them now.

=========================================================== Declaración de Artista: Mi misión como artista es despertar la espiritualidad en la mente humana con un acercamiento hacia las artes que acentúe una conexión entre la naturaleza y la sociedad moderna de hoy. En mi niñez durante visitas a la familia de mi padre alrededor de Xico, Veracruz en México, experimenté la subrevivencia Maya y Olmeca, las culturas católicas y modernas del mexico actual: Tambien el cultivo tradicional, y artes populares que representan y expresan la vida de la gente mexicana indígena. Cultivé más adelante un sentido de la libertad de expresar mis sueños y realidad personales sumergiéndome en culturas indígenas en los estados de Oaxaca, de Veracruz, de Puebla, de Michoacan y de Tlaxcala. Crecí creyendo y experimentando mis pensamientos independientes, realizando un entendimiento de que la gente es rica en recursos para su propiao autodominio. Soy artista multidisciplinario, autodidacta nacido en Ciudad de México, en México un gran énfasis se pone en la conexión entre los seres humanos y el mundo natural. Mi abuela emigró de Xico, Veracruz a Ciudad de México antes de que naciera, y he continuado esta experiencia de la familia con mi propia migración a la ciudad de Philadelphia Pennsylvania en los Estados Unidos de Norte America-(estamos desunidos de america)-. Hace diez años, donde he ensamblado a la diversidad de vidas y de intercambios culturales de esta ciudad. Mi nombre artístico BRUJO DE LA MANCHA fue dado por mis amigos atravez mi desarrollo artístico. Porque la transformación es una energía mágica que los seres humanos tienen adentro. Animo a la gente a centrarse en el presente, a reciclar y valorar lo que ahora tiene alrededor.

I transform discarded objects into works of art that manifest experiences viscerally rooted in my subconscious. My sculptures and puppets draw on the southern Mexican traditional art of Alebrijes, a paper maché or wooden sculpture depicting demons, trolls, animals, and other mystical or magical creatures. I work in a wide range of media, including Sculpture, Painting, Drawing, Puppetry, Photography, Native American Aztec Dance and Music, Digital Video, Music and Photo, as well in Non-profit Art Management. In 2003 I did Co -found OLLIN YOLIZTLI CALMECAC (OYC) an Aztec Dance Troupe and non-profit organization where the “Mission is to investigate, understand and raise awareness of the MEXICAYOTL culture, which flourished in Mexico prior to the arrival of the Spanish in 1492.”

By having this type of goals it will reach my main goal that is to reach out to diverse communities and staying connected to my community it will help me to understand the vast diversity in the workings of the human mind, just as art helps people to understand themselves and to realize their potential.

Resumen de mi trabajo: Transformo objetos desechados en obras de arte de experiencias arraigadas manifestadas en mi subconsciente. Mis esculturas y marionetas son inspiradas, en el arte tradicional del suroeste de Mexico llamados Alebrijes, hechos de papel maché o de madera. Las escultura representa a demonios, duendes, animales y otras criaturas místicas o mágicas. Trabajo en una amplia gama de medios, incluyendo escultura, pintura, dibujo, titeres, danza y música azteca, vídeo, música y foto Digital, también en la gerencia no lucrativa del las Artes. En 2003 funde - OLLIN YOLIZTLI CALMECAC (OYC)- una compañía de danza azteca que asu vez se transformo en una organización no lucrativa donde. La “misión el está investigar, entender y levantar el conociencia de la cultura MEXICAYOTL, que florecio en México antes de la llegada de los español en 1492.”

Teniendo este tipo de metas alcanzare mi objetivo principal que es alcanzar a otras diversas comunidades y permanecer conectado con mi comunidad que me ayudará a entender la diversa extensidad de los funcionamientos de la mente humana.
