2am Logic does not hide behind masks or pyrotechnics. Their brand of rock is from the soul, and the songs they write are full of heartfelt angst without the doom and gloom. The beautiful blend of lyrical maturity and mind probing guitar licks makes 2am Logic a band that is not afraid to go acoustic, and more than happy to crank the amps up to volume 11.
Born and raised in Alaska, Todd Thompson is the son of a nationally renowned studio and touring musician. At the age of 12 he left his jazz/blues roots and joined Whitewater, a well-known bluegrass band. That led to a country music career, which allowed Todd to tour most of the US. Even though he was living the rodeo life, riding bulls and broncs while writing songs and singing, he found that he was listening to rock music most of the time. So, in 2006 he started putting together the group that would come to be known as 2am Logic, and took the position of lead vocals.
Joining 2am Logic in the spring of 2008, Cody Scheer, the grandson of an old time fiddler, stepped into the rhythm guitar position. He grew up around acoustic jam sessions, and eventually picked up the guitar. Self taught and originally just a hobby player, he would play anytime and anywhere. Rock, Country, and a little blues make up his influences. He is also a vocalist, singing harmonies on their originals and leads on covers for their bar sets.
After the original bass player wrecked a bullet bike following a show, Kathy Brown stepped in on short notice. Born and raised in Southeast Idaho, she spent most of her youth as a violinist in the local orchestras. In her mid teens, her love of hard rock/heavy metal took over, and she began playing the bass guitar. Studying with Dustin Thueson, she honed her skills in the rock genre.
Dustin Thueson began playing guitar in various bands in his teens. Upon buying a drum set for his wife, Dustin discovered a natural talent and quickly excelled through the local metal scene as the original drummer for Denots (which he was in with Piklz). When Dustin left Denots after a few years to invest more time with his family, he regained interest in the guitar and studied with the regions best musicians. He formed Dimmencha with Piklz, but after recording an album with them and (playing lead guitar) and a couple years on the local circuit, he chose to take a different direction musically and started teaching guitar. In mid 2008 he joined 2am Logic and has been an integral part of their music ever since.
Shawn Ringel (alter ego of Piklz) spent his teen years playing various instruments until joining Denots as a bass player. After several years with them he moved to Dimmencha (with Dustin) and took over as lead vocalist in the band. Leaving Dimmencha for personal reasons, he started focusing on the drums and harmonies, and eventually came in to replace 2am Logic’s original drummer in the middle of recording their debut album “Shattered”.
