.. .. .. 2Blue is formed at the end of the 90s as an open collective, around dj Luca “Rocca” Roccatagliati and architect Enrico Marani. DJ Rocca is a founder member of Maffia, the club which is a focus of the italian electronic scene (venue for artists as Howie B, Bill Laswell, Fat Boy Slim, Roni Size) since more than ten years. He has parallel projects: with British dj Zed Bias works as “Daluq”, together with Pressure Drop founded the “Cane Matto” combo, and with Fabrizio Tavernelli “Aiello”. He is also the pillar of Maffia Soundsystem, with whom he toured most of Europe. Enrico Marani’s experiences as performer and musician started at the end of the 80s, in the industrial-noise group T.A.C. During the 90s he worked with Manitù Rossi in “Le Forbici di Manitù”, that released 7 albums on various independent labels, in Italy and abroad: one of these is dedicated to Luther Blisset, and attracted the attention of international press (Wire). At the end of the 90s he founded Duozero with Fabrizio Tavernelli (AFA, Groove Safari). 2Blue released two albums for the label Kom Fut Manifesto. The first, Fattore Sonoro, is meant as accompaniment for Andrea Chiesi’s paintings, and comprises electronically generated instrumental suites. With this soundscape, Andrea Chiesi’s work has been exibited in important national galleries, like Galleria Civica (Modena), Palazzo delle Papesse (Siena), Inga Pin Gallery (Milano). The second album, Light Transmission, is the condensation of 2Blue’s artistic efforts, looking also at the human voice for the constitution of a consistent textual plot, accompanied by an accomplished rhythmic and sonic research. Collaborators to Light Transmission are: Ursula Rucker, poet and singer from Philadelphia, with two albums on k7 (Supasista and Silver or Lead), Dave Watts, voice in Fun>Da>Mental and Tim Motzer, guitarist active on the Philadelphia scene (Les Nubians, King Britt, Patti LaBelle, Ursula Rucker). Light Transmission gets very good reviews on the Italian press (Alias, Rockstar, Mucchio Selvaggio, Rockerilla). =================================================== =================================================== ROCKERILLA n.280 Dicembre 2003 (disco del mese) I 2Blue sono riusciti a legare in un unico concept il passato ed il presente proiettandosi nel futuro. Il futuro dell’elettronica come di qualsiasi forma artistica che cerchi l’uomo attraverso lo scorrere del tempo. Il disco si apre con la voce, apprezzatissima, di Ursula Rucker ("Brainstream"). Prosegue con un ammonimento ’classico’ recitato da Dave Watts ("1984"), la voce dei Fun>Da>Mental. Si arricchisce ampiamente ed ancora di spoken word con la chicagoana d’origine Kimberly Duke ("A Door", l’interstellare "A Body", "Black Sun"). Si conclude con le note (g)riffate della chitarra neosoul di Tim Motzer ("Everything must pass"). Ma non sono questi gli elementi essenziali del disco: DJ Rocca ed Enrico Marani sono riusciti a coniugare l’elettronica classica con il drum’n’bass, l’industrial con l’ambient, l’idea con l’azione, il ritmo con la melodia, se non addirittura con il silenzio del break(beat). Il passato con il presente. La scienza con la fantascienza. La vita con la morte. L’ignoranza con la cultura. O i rispettivi contrari. Non so se 2Blue volessero arrivare a tanto, ma, per nostra fortuna, lo hanno fatto. Un grande ascolto. Raffaello Carusi ===================================================== ===================================================== Recensione 2Blue - Light Transmission apparso su MUCCHIO SELVAGGIO (n5 - 2004) Di tutt’altro livello qualitativo una produzione tutta italiana, quella dei 2Blue, progetto di Luca Roccatagliati (noto dj del Maffa Club di Reggio Emilia) e Enrico Marani, che sono oggi con Light Transmission (sempre su etichetta KFM) al loro secondo lavoro. Rispetto al precedente Fattore Sonoro, che era stato concepito come colonna sonora di accompagnamento ai lavori del pittore Andrea Chiesi, questo nuovo disco ha le forme e la struttura di un vero e proprio album. Al tempo di Fattore Sonoro, Roccatagliati e Marani stavano già lavorando a Light Transmission: l’idea di base è dunque la stessa, ovvero quella di unire in unico progetto sperimentazione sonora e elettronica di ricerca (con lo sguardo rivolto da una parte ai lavori di classici dell’avanguardia come Stockhausen e dall’altra alle sperimentazioni del krautrock) ad una rilettura personale delle diverse suggestioni timbriche provenienti dal mondo della club culture odierna. L’idea è buona e la sua realizzazione, come raramente accade, è anche questa volta ottima (suoni e arrangiamenti curatissimi). Della musica dei 2Blue, già al tempo della prima prova, ciò che resta maggiormente impresso a livello emotivo è la cupezza intimista che grava sui paesaggi sonori disegnati, cosa che in Light Transmission trova una rinnovata intensità grazie alla calda presenza delle liriche e delle straordinarie voci di Ursula Rucker e Dave Watts, ospiti eccezionali del progetto e in perfetta sintonia con la sua estetica.
