   2 Dogs 2,000 Miles's Blurbs
About me:
ARKANSAS!!!

And so after travelling more than 350 miles over 3 months and overcoming countless challenges, Texas, in all her glory and greatness, finally let her native sons pass. On Saturday June 7th we acheived our first major milestone by crossing the state line into Arkansas and within six weeks, we'll be in Memphis. Thanks to everyone who has helped make this possible. Nothing is going to stop us now!

If you're just finding out about 2 Dogs 2,000 Miles, here's how the story behind our walk from Austin to Boston began. In 2006 I lost Malcolm, my Great Pyrenees to metastatic bone cancer. Though he wasn't my blood, he was my boy and his loss devasted me. And it became the inspiration behind the 2,000 mile journey that I'll be taking with my two other Pyrenees, Hudson and Murphy.

Our Mission: Discovering the Cause of Cancer not Finding a Cure

There are many cancer foundations whose mission is finding a cure and while we applaud their efforts, we want to know what's causing it. The funds raised from the walk will finance the first ever nationwide epidemiological canine cancer study.

It's More Than Just About Canine Cancer

The implications of this study are even more far reaching. Scientists have discovered that the vast majority of cancers found in pets are the same types in humans, which make the dog an ideal model for research. Not only will pets benefit from this study but people, too. There is another reason, too. By using dogs with pre-existing cancer for studies, it reduces our dependency on lab animals.

Safe travels

I have been following your journey for the last two months, and have been proudly wearing my bracelet from your website for the last month or so.

I found your website when doing research on Hemangiosarcoma because my lab mix Chase (pictured with me in my profile picture) was diagnosed after his splenectomy on 12/20. We lost him this past Monday, 2/16, when it decided to return horribly and he bled out in his belly and was no longer a candidate for surgery, so we helped him cross to the Rainbow Bridge so he would no longer be suffering.

My husband and I would love to meet you in Columbus, OH when you make your journey through. Do you have a timelime of when you plan on being in Columbus and do you have any events planned for when you are here?

Much love to you Hudson and Murphy. Take care.

Hi Luke! I'm a 9-year-old Olde English Bulldog who is almost 10 months post-diagnosis and post-op for splenectomy due to hemangiosarcoma. I'm doing great, playing every day and enjoying my life as the most spoiled bulldog on Earth! My mom and I would love to meet you when you pass through Columbus, Ohio.
Any idea of a timeline for when you'll arrive in Columbus?

a quote I heard today on NPR that really embodies your courage and destination:
"Don't go where the path may lead; go where there's no path and leave a trail"...

I can't decide on the Murphy tee or the "I 'heart' my big dog" one... hmmm, guess I'll have to get both!!!

Oct 15 2008 5:05 PM

Hello and Thank you for being my friend!!

Your help is need for the homeless animals of Philadelphia.
On Saturday, October 25, I will participate in the PAWS Mutt Strut, which will bring 1,000 animal lovers and their pets together for a 1.5-mile walk through FDR Park. We will raise badly needed funds for PAWS’ lifesaving programs including adoption outreach, spay/neuter clinics, and low-cost vaccination services. We will also raise awareness of the harsh reality that thousands of healthy and treatable animals are killed in Philadelphia each year, simply because they do not have homes.
The Mutt Strut will offer us a day of companionship and celebration, and will enable PAWS to give countless more animals the chance to experience that companionship and safety for themselves.
Please give whatever you can, and consider joining me on October 25!
Every "dollar" helps! Donations are TAX DEDUCTIBLE
