About me:

Introducing: Secondhand Freespace

Secondhand Freespace is a free quarterly music industry forum launching Wednesday August 27 at Local 506, in Chapel Hill.

The objective of "Secondhand Freespace" is to break down and de-mystify various aspects of the music industry by tapping into the wealth of knowledge that currently exists throughout the state of North Carolina. Each forum will consist of a panel discussion on a specific music-related topic (such as booking, recording, publicity, production, or distribution) and the panel will consist of people who operate in that area of the industry.

In addition to the general discussion, a Q&A section will follow each panel to provide more specific insight.

Additionally, each forum will include networking opportunities to meet both the panelists and other participants. The overall goal of the night is to not only have people learn more about an area of the industry, but hopefully meet like-minded individuals who can they can continue to share ideas with after the forum has ended.

This series is brought to you by organizers: Mimi (Pneurotics) Eleni (Beloved Binge) and Glenn (Local 506).
Who I'd like to meet:
Musicians, Producers, Sound Engineers, Promoters, Graphic Designers, Label Owners, Band Managers, Roadies, Club Owners, Booking Agents. Anyone interested in developing a strong community foundation of musicianship and sharing of valuable information about being in a band.

After spending the last month driving 4000 miles around the southwest, I arrived back in Los Angeles to discover that my new album 'Anitya' has been released. Its currently available on amazon, napster and emusic...or you can listen to most of streaming for free on reverbnation.com/tullymackaytisbert. If you enjoy it I for sure appreciate the support. The album is 10 songs that involve the idea of anitya in Buddhism that all things are impermanent. The album is acoustic folk rock that also integrates traditional east asian sounds and uses the chinese lute the pipa. Thank you for listening!
Peace,
Tully

Thank you for hosting these events. I find them particularly useful when booking bands for campus shows and because i am generally invested in the triangle music scene. i disagree with a lot that has been said about students not being interested in local music. they just don't know about it because there is little sustained effort from the schools or the community to involve them in a meaningful way. i think the student leaders, the musicians and the venues in the triangle area should communicate more and collaborate. it really is possible and it takes a combined effort from all sides to make it happen. but if we start from the premise that it's a lost cause nothing good will come of it. i would also like to see more representatives from durham in these conversations, student organizers and members of the press and radio.
these forums are an excellent idea, congrats!

Thank you to Secondhand Freespace for hosting the event last night. Thanks to Glenn, Mouse, Dayn, and Jenks for your insight. Very informative and at times funny. Met some cool people and look forward to meeting everyone else I wasn't able to meet. I look forward to more forums and more exciting shows in Chapel Hill.

P.S.
Someone made a comment about not many drummers in the area - I am an electronic solo artist, but i have been playing drums and passionately living for drums for about 22 years now - so if anyone truly needs a drummer - get in touch !!! Peace & Love, Thanks Again !!!!
