I'm so sorry I haven't been in touch like I should. With all that has been going on with Winston I don't get too many chances lately to be online. Hopefully everything will be back to normal soon. Thank you for understanding and continuing to be my friend. I miss you!

    Love and Blessings,

    Dear Rhae

I hope you are well great lady, we miss you! We hope to hear from you soon, unless of course you have just won a Golden Ticket to Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, in which case we probably won't see you until next year. Just you save some of those candies for me, you hear! ;)

    Cheers, Michael & Keasha

James, the absolutely AMAZING wildlife rehabilitator, who works with the Valley Wildlife Center. I watched him as he built a teeny, weeny splint by melting & molding a Starbuck's stir rod! This was after vets said they didn't have one "small enough" for a baby hummingbird's broken wing.

I'll be posting more stories/info about him. Meanwhile, you can learn more about the Wildlife Center @ their website: www.valleywildlifecare.org

    Strangest animal I ever rescued?
    A beautiful Tiger Eel...
surrendered by a neighbor when he was moving out in a hurry, and leaving all his trash behind.
This is the same person from whom I rescued "Hemi" (the polydactyl kitten)...who now lives blissfully in his new, adoptive home with Jeni, her husband, Aza, and Bunny!

...has been working in rescue for over twenty-five years.
Born in Chicago and raised in the suburb of Glenview, IL,
she has had a "soft spot" for animals since she was able to walk & talk.

It first began when she started bringing home abondoned
field mice & injured birds.
This soon grew in to a life-long love affair with
creatures big & small,
domestic & wild, furry & winged (or anything in between).

She is currently writing a mission statement
and working towards becoming a 501 non-profit in Los Angeles County.

This past week we rescued a double litter of NINE kittens
from the roof of a foreclosed home in Panorama City!

When I first received the call, I was told there were five kittens and their mama.
Once we were on the roof and began to pull kittens out
from a small opening underneath a central AC unit
(on our bellies!), we pulled out a sixth, then seventh...

then eighth & ninth!

Apparently, two, very young, sweet sisters
had litters within days of one another.

FOSTER HOMES needed!

Can YOU provide them a safe, quiet place to grow?
Please send me a message at once!

Charlotte, a sweet, young, American Staffordshire Terrier,
had been sitting in a cold, damp, concrete cell
at Downey Animal Shelter for seven long months...
while a court case for her abuser dragged on.

She had been beaten and used as a bait dog by her previous owner.
Then, after all these months of waiting, as fate would have it;
she was scheduled to be euthanized.
I simply couldn't allow this to happen.

My friend, Hali, joined me on the long journey to the Downey Shelter.
We pulled her out of there before it was too late.
The staff members had gotten to know her so well...
after all, she'd been there longer than any animal,
only kept alive due to the on-going investigation.

Officer Sherman and Gacey's eyes welled up with tears
when they realized the day they thought would never arrive was here!
The sad dog that they allowed to run off leash in building 2,
walked daily, & played with, was getting out!
...about to embark on a new journey
...a new life, where she would be loved
and allowed to be the happy dog she was meant to be!

Charlotte is an unbelievably sweet, affectionate, loving dog
who kisses everyone she meets... well, all humans, that is.
Unfortunately, she has "issues" with other dogs - due to her horrific past.

Two weeks ago, Charlotte was brought to "Green Dog,"
a wonderful boarding facility in Los Angeles.
There she is being socialized with other dogs and learning to be in a pack!

UPDATE May 17th, 2009:
I just hung up the phone with Marcus ("Green Dog" founder)
who said he is going to be sending video footage (which I'll be posting)
of Charlotte PLAYING with other dogs!

He was on his couch, watching the Laker's game,
with Charlotte's head on his lap and three other dogs...
just hangin' out!!
I'm doin' a HaPpY DaNcE!

If you'd like to help with this sweet doggie's rehabilitation...
which will only make her that much more adoptable...
please consider donating on her behalf?

FOSTER or PERMANENT HOME needed ASAP!

Emergency Surgery

saved this orange tabby's life
after x-rays revealed a "linear foreign object"
in his lower intestines (a classic "string of pearls").
This means there was something wrapped around his intestines
(which turned out to be a long, plastic, carpet fiber)
...a life threatening situation, indeed.

Photobucket

He is recovering well after enduring this most invasive procedure.
The surgeon had to palpate his entire instestinal tract
by hand, inch by inch.
This poor boy was quite miserable when he left the surgery center, as you can imagine!
Since then, the swelling has gone down,
his stitches have been removed, and his fur is growing back!

▐► Meanwhile, we have an outstanding balance (for this emergency surgery)
@ Animal Specialty Group (Invoice #271451),
4641 Colorado Blvd., Los Angeles, 90039, for nearly $3,000.00
