SUPPORT URBAN GROWTH
• Encouraging integrated businesses districts and economic development throughout Portland.
• Welcoming businesses to Portland that have demonstrated outstanding environmental and social responsibility in other cities.
• Holding corporations responsible for their impact on our community.
• finding, and creating good jobs for Portland citizens
ENCOURAGE ECONOMIC ADVANCEMENT OF LOW INCOME PEOPLE
• Creating opportunities for low income people to create and build small businesses through the development of “work spaces”
• Work to raise monies from private companies and combine the City of Portland’s resources to build “public work-spaces”
• Encouraging financial centers to lend to low income entrepreneurs
• Encouraging free community education classes and workshops for small business owners
• Provide education and assistance to small business owners to help them expand their businesses
REBUILD COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS & RESTORE UNITY
• Encouraging and assisting the development of cultural centers in portland
• Encouraging community leaders to involve people in their communities to unite their efforts to counter damage to their communities from drugs, crime and racism
• Encourage the development of goals and action steps to improve community moral.
• Prevent further uprooting and displacement of African American people from historically black neighborhoods because of their low-income status.
HOUSING
• Create and maintain public/ private partnerships in order to create more low-income housing for single parents and their families.
• Provide first time home buyers with information they need by further developing programs to help them buy a home.
• Educate young people on the steps necessary to become a home owner and encourage them to pursue that goal early in their adulthood in order to increase their quality of life and economic viability in the future.
• Assist home owners in the acquisition of money to make necessary repairs to their homes.
EDUCATION
• Increase access to education for all ages, and socio-economic classes through the development of community knowledge-based sharing and workshops in public spaces.
• Find creative solutions to help fund Portland Public Schools and restore art and sports activities that once thrived in Portland’s schools.
• Increase opportunities for low-income students to attend college.
ENVIRONMENT
• Continue to advance Portland Oregon as a city that values nature and wildlife
• Continue with the Bureau of Environmental affairs work on storm water management to prevent contamination of rivers and streams
• Encourage neighborhood associations to be active by adopting their local parks and promote organic lawn maintenance.
• Continue to support Tri-met, Max expansion projects and take action to increase safety both on and around Tri-met property.
• Improve safety for bicyclists on the road by research and development of an improved bike lane system.
• Give incentives to companies that provide free or discount bus passes to their employees.
• Encourage and advance green building practices, the use of recycled materials and alternative fuel and energy sources for city projects.
• Encourage school wide service days to provide environmental education for youth and keep green spaces “clean”

About me:
Beryl McNair was born and raised in portland oregon. She attended our public schools and put her daughter through Portland Public Schools as well. Beryl has seen a dramatic change in the quality of education that we offer our children.
She would like to make a positive difference for Portland. Beryl McNair is running for Mayor of Portland in the 2008 election. Her platform focuses ..ing small businesses succeed, encouraging home ownership and assisting low income entrepreneurs to secure the resources they need to start their own businesses.
She will also strive to restore the Portland Public School budget, and use creative solutions to ensure that education, health care and food are accessible to those in need.
McNair is a forward thinker, with innovative ideas to help Portland utilize the resources we already have.
McNair a woman of character who exemplifies the principles of caring and unity. Beryl McNair is a mayoral candidate for the people.
She understands the consequences of gentrification and recognizes the importance of economic growth.
She presents a well balanced platform that will restore unity to our urban centers while still enabling economic growth to flourish.

• Contribute $5 and Sign a qualifying contribution receipt so Beryl can be eligible for the campaign finance fund.
• Hold a tea or desert at your home- invite co-workers, neighbors and friends to hear what Beryl has to say.
• Volunteer- We need 1500 qualifying campaign contribution receipts signed ASAP. We need volunteers to help us get those $5 contributions and signatures
• Vote in the upcoming primary election
