Christina LaRocca is a native Brooklynite with soul, a set of pipes, and an impressive bead collection. This soul stirring diva has been seen all over the tri-state both solo with her guitar and with her eclectic band Heavy Weather. .. CHRISTINA LAROCCA grew up under her mother’s musical influence, hoping to one day to sing as beautiful as she did. With the record player constantly spinning Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, and Aretha Franklin and it’s easy to see where CHRISTINA got her soulful and smooth R&B sound. After moving from Bensonhurst, BK to Staten Island, during her teen years CHRISTINA found herself listening to listening to female radio stars like No Doubt, TLC, Mariah Carey, Nelly Furtado, Christina Aguliera, Missy Elliott, Alanis Morsette, Lil Kim, and En Vouge. She began auditioning for plays and realizing theatre wasn’t satisfying her musical urge, she picked up a guitar and following her father’s beatnik poetic ways, dug into the deep dark mass throbbing inside her heart and began writing her own music. By 2005 CHRISTINA had caught the ears of local musicians such as CARL GALLAGHER and DORIAN LAKE. After jamming at a hurricane Katrina fund raiser, they decided to name their newly found project HEAVY WEATHER. .. HEAVY WEATHER released “Miles of Mud” in 2008, which has been receiving attention internationally since. Christina was recently part of 101.9 RXP’s Record Store Day in April 2010 and was placed on Rich Russo’s Anything Anything Vinyl Compilation Record and came into 69 on records sold in NY. They won the IAR Next Level Competition in 2008 where they got the attention of Grammy winning engineer Dan Grigsby and have recently finished recording their new EP “Fire” to be released spring 2010. Heavy Weather has also been a part of the Wave Gathering Festival ’08, NYC Songwriter’s Circle, headlined “From the Penthouse” Artist Series at Tainted Blue Studios, New York City Finalist at “Emergenza,” the international battle of the bands competition, and performed at the Millennium Music Conference <10, 11, 12> among many other festivals and conferences. They also received the 2007 Junefest Grant from COAHSI for bringing music and culture to their hometown in Staten Island, NY. Christina and Dorian have even performed at Carnegie Hall with the Wagner College Choir in 2005, where they met, and Heavy Weather began. Heavy Weather has toured all over the east and west coast as well as the UK. .. Presently Carl Gallagher, Dorian Lake, Jackson Twain, Mike Sutton, Danny Gallagher and Christina LaRocca make up the group and are certainly some of NYC’s best musicians. ........ .. .. .......... ....I created my layout at KillerKiwi.net.. .. ..
