About me:

Urban Ore is a located at an old steel mill in Berkeley,Ca where over 30 employees work hard at Ending the Age of Waste. We have three acres of used goods that come from both the public and the local transfer station. We have three trucks that collect and deliver goods, two receiving departments to accept reusable goods and two sales departments, the General Store and Building Materials. We also have a salvage crew who do all of the hands on recycling and we outsource with several other recycling businesses that recycle what we cannot at our facilities. The key is to reuse! SALES DEPARTMENTS: BUILDING MATERIALS carries doors in 28 categories,windows,bathtubs,sinks,toilets,bricks,tile,lumber,pipe, and garden goods. GENERAL STORE deals in cabinets,shelving,home and office furniture,hardware,tools,lighting,housewares,clothing,antiques,books,records & CD's,artworks and art supplies,electronics,photo gear,bed frames,pet supplies stoves and appliances,sewing machines,sporting goods and more. SERVICE DEPARTMENTS: OUTSIDE TRADER picks up discarded goods from people,businesses and institutions by appointment. RECEIVING receives and sometimes buys items for the general store with either cash or trade credit. SALVAGE AND RECYCLING salvages at the City of Berkeley transfer station and recycles internally-generated scrap metal and recyclable materials. The value of reuse is that it conserves not only the material, but also the embodied energy and craft that went into the manufacturing. This value is reflected in more income and a business whose process deal with individual objects, not bulk commodities. Conserving cultural value is also important. Any still- usable everyday things can fill a need or come in handy for someone. Some people genuinely prefer to buy or consume in a way that respects the resources and the planet. AVOID THE DUMP!
