About me:
I guess the only thing about me that matters now is that I'm just one of several untold thousands of people who are starting their lives over from scratch due to some glorified thunderstorm named KATRINA. Before coming to Atlanta, I lived in New Orleans and worked in the Film Industry as an Asst. Locations Manager. I've worked on several small TV movies and Indie films. Some of the better known movies I've worked on are: Monster's Ball ; Big Fish ; and Skeleton Key. Anyway, I'm starting over in a new town so wish me luck.
I met the members of Analog Missionary a few years ago after they released their first album, "Transmitter". I had just co-produced a silent film festival in Mobile which was surprisingly successful. We played a few Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton films and had a local piano professor play along with them. Seeing the old films with live musical accompinement (probably not corrrect spelling) was very interesting. I began to plan a Halloween silent film festival and had a crazy idea. I asked Analog Missionary if they would be interested in writing and performing a soundtrack to the 1922 silent Horror classic, "NOSFERATU". To my surprise they eagerly jumped at the idea. Thus began my relationship with one of the most amazing bands in the region. They created an incredibly rich emotive soundtrack that has not only modern progressive rock energy but also a beautifully evocative sense of historical time and place. They spent time studying the music of transylvania and eastern europe. They studied Bela Bartok's folk music and even included a small section of a gypsy folksong in the soundtrack. Their use of the therimin seems trancendental. This early 20th century primative synthesizer was cutting edge at the time and its beautiful moanings quickly became associated with horror films of the time. In certain songs, "Secret Race" for instance, Kevin plays passages less like a modern guitar, but like early greek or balkan instruments such as a bouzouki or dombra where there are only one or two strings and the notes are slurred together. Tony also manages to incorporate a mellotron. This historical instrument was the first keyboard sampler and used magnetic tape to imitate the sounds of other musical instruments and helps to give the soundtrack an aged feel as if it were perhaps written with the film. Not only all this, but the soundtrack definitly manages to ROCK! Anyway, that halloween, we rented the historic Saengar theatre and put on the most incredible Halloween/Art/event that Mobile had ever seen. So that is how I met Analog Missionary. Oh yeah and then myself and some friends did their "Lillith" video, but that is another story entirely.
