If your school isn't planning anything go to your nearest school that is having an action and join them, and take all your friends/family with you too!

Listen up all you 3.5 Million California College Students! We're going to take our education back! There's strength in numbers and with all of us concentrating our rallying might on March 4th, 2010 we will be making some very serious national news. The date has gotten significant publicity already and will be a great day for local action!

Come out all you students, and bring the teachers too. All you moms, dads, cousins, sisters, business owners, politicians, alumni, activists, artists, media types- $1 spent on education = $3 out! That is good business. California's got to lift itself up by the bootstraps, and climb out of this hole. EDUCATION IS THE MEANS TO THAT END!

..:..MISSION STATEMENT..:..

El Reflejo/Sol y Canto was created as an alternative media outlet that covers news, politics, culture and the arts of the Chican@/Latin@ community, providing a space for CSULB students to engage in dialogue.

..:HISTORY:..

The publication was developed in a joint effort that came together as one. Sol Y Canto was developed to provide a space for the community at large to engage, true to the arts, in an expressive and informative dialogue.

El Reflejo was created out of the Latin@ Dialogues (of Fall 2005) that were conducted at CSULB in order to develop solutions to improve the retention and graduation rates of Chican@/ Latin@s at CSULB. Out of these talks, students, faculty, and staff decided that in order to improve the sense of inclusion for Chican@/Latin@ students at CSULB, there would be a need for a sort of representative media outlet to be used to address important issues and engage in dialogue.

..:Frequently Asked Questions:..

1. Do I have to be a CSULB student to submit?
A: No. Although the publication is based at Cal State Long Beach, works will be published at editors' discretion.

2. When is your next deadline?
A: Don't worry about it, just SUBMIT! We would love to have your stuff with us as soon as possible though.

3. My writing skills ain't that good and I'm sort of scared to submit.
A: That's why we edit and kindly help you out. ;) Do not let this stop you from sharing your experiences/literary works!

4. I've submitted my masterpiece. Now what?
A: If we decide to publish your work, we will contact you with any questions. Then, you can sit tight and wait for us to crank it out. Or maybe the next question suits you.

5. I'd like to get involved. What can I do?
A: Great! We're always glad to have a bigger editing/layout/committed staff. First of all, you can attend our meetings. Check the blog for the latest meeting minutes and you will find the date, location and time of the next meeting towards the end. If you cannot make it, sign up for our e-mail list by sending us a message at our submission e-mail (el.reflejo.submit@gmail.com) to let us know. Minutes and other useful information are forwarded through there.

6. I'd like to make a donation. How do I do that?
A: If you have access to the Cal State Long Beach campus send us an e-mail and we will let you know where to go. Otherwise, you can contact any of us involved and we will gladly deposit your donation to the friendly Banco del Reflejo. Donations are used primarily to cover printing costs and only after much deliberation, to cover small costs associated with holding a fundraising event.

Who I'd like to meet:

editors, writers, poets, photographers, and other artists
