   About Townes Van Zandt
This page is maintained by Rakefilms, we produced BE HERE TO LOVE ME: A FILM ABOUT TOWNES VAN ZANDT. You can check out more at our website: TOWNESTHEMOVIE.COM As a musician, Townes Van Zandt was legendary recording dozens of albums over a career spanning more than 30 years. Although he never had a hit, his work have been covered with great success by Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harrish and has inspired artists from Bob Dylan to Norah Jones. As a man, a husband, and a father his life was as tragic and as beautiful as the songs he wrote. Townes was an enigma to his family, pinned between a deep longing for home and the nomadic lifestyle that was necessary for his livelihood. Director Margaret Brown's BE HERE TO LOVE ME is an artful, expertly directed portrait of both of these sides of Van Zandt and ultimately serves as an insightful look at the sacrifices, challenges, and consequences faced in pursuit of a dream. Haunting and lyrical, BE HERE TO LOVE ME combines emotional interviews with friends and family with never seen footage of Townes Van Zandt, from rare performance and interview footage to intimate portraits shot in Van Zandts own home throughout the years. It also includes appearances by many famous musicians, including Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Kris Kristofferson, Steve Earle, and Emmylou Harris.

Townes...Your music is dark...but it's real man.  I can completely relate.  Kudos to the way you chose to live your life.  It may have been risky, but at least it was you man.

..i had Justin Townes Earle play the venue i run in Santa Cruz, CA..you would be so proud brother he has become quite the musician/artist..we even went out after the show and got tattoo's due to our bond over you and just being decent folk who put on a great show...you enhance many lives in so many ways to this day, Justin takes so much from you and then delivers that to a starving crowd...your work continues and is so beautiful to witness in this state...shit just about every night some band playing my joint covers one of your songs..just on thursday for instance i had Pete Bernhard from The Devil Makes Three play and he covered Mr.Gold & Mr.Mudd, it was super up tempo...crazy shit man, wish you were here!!!!

I still remember fondly that night we shared a bottle of Vodka. It was Febuary 1996 in an east end Toronto hotel room. I kept the bottle for a long while after. I put a lame letter my ex-wife gave me when we seperated in it. Things fell apart not long after that and that old empty bottled ended up collecting dust in an old garage under a pile of my stuff. That old bottle is forgotten now, but your songs still give me strength that can't be denied.  Your songs are strength. Thanks for the power, lutherluvs

I saw "Be Here To Love Me" last night. It was interesting and depressing.

I met Townes once and drank a few beers with him. He was really nice to me and seemed to be well in control of life at the time. It was painful to watch some parts but it doesn't change anything. He is the greatest songwriter that ever lived and was a nice guy.

Thanks for the movie.
