Anthony Pauls Musical Biography
Music has always been a part of Anthony's life. Born in 1980, Anthony had always listened to music and would hum his own songs to himself. It wasn't till he was about 11 years old that he sat down and started to follow the songs on beat as they played on the radio. This is how he learned about measures, beat counting, and song structure.
Anthony Paul's energy and love for the music has been an inspiration for many people, both musically and not. He is definitely a force to be reckoned with when he's behind the decks, being able to capture the element of the moment, and adapt to any situation.
He classifies his music as House, and his music ranges from driving progressive, and funky to big room electro. In late 2001 he began using three turntables in his club DJ sets, playing progressive house. Then in mid 2002 he added a drum machine to his setup.
Anthony Paul was interviewed by Ninevolt Magazine for their electronic music section in 2003 (issue No.113, April 8, 2003; Page 21). Then in March 2005, he was voted as one of the top 5 EDM Dj's in Hampton Roads after Ninevolt had its "6th Annual Ninevolt Local Music Awards" (issue No.146; page 25).
Anthony Paul had performed around 100 parties in 2002 alone. This also included four monthly residencies before he decided to hold his own weekly called Pulse at a venue known as Hartz in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He held this weekly event over nine months until he decided to willingly pass the night on to another eager promoter so he could focus more of his energy on his DJ career and production.
This allowed him to DJ in various cities along the east coast, including New England, Washington, D.C., North and South Carolina, Tennessee, and Florida.
International gigs include Club Plastic in Ibiza, Spain (July 2007).
In the later part of 2005 Anthony Paul and a local promoter began a night known as Euronight at a club called Premiere (aka Granby Theater). At the time, this was the major hot spot in Virginia. Once a month, for over 3 years, hundreds upon thousands would come through the doors for a night full of house music and friendly vibes, and attend a party which was themed a different country every event. For example, Euronight Greece had the countries flag hanging from the banisters inside, and the billboard on the front of the club. The dancers wore outfits matching the colors of the countries flag, and even a few remixes of popular Greek songs were played during peak hours.
Other countries that were celebrated were Sweden (February 3rd), Austria (March 3rd), UK (April 7th), Italy (June 3rd), Russia (July 8th), Bulgaria (August 5th), Spain (September 2nd), Greece (October 7th), Germany (November 4th) and European Union (Dec 2nd). These were only the parties from the middle of the Euronight time line. Pictures from these events can be found at this website: www.club641.com/photo/ however not every event has been added quite yet (as of June 2007).
Word of Euronight quickly spread throughout Virginia, and neighboring states. This was one event DJs wanted to play at, and it became clear when demos from DJs all over the east coast flooded Anthony's mailbox.
Many guest DJs were booked Including Rhythm at Work DJs Gary Willis and Jamie Foat who DJ for Ministry of Sound Radio. They played at Euronight UK, and then returned for Euronight Union: 1 year anniversary. Donald Glaude spun at Euronight Union: 2 Year Anniversary (December 1, 2007).
In January of 2007, Pulse was reborn at the Granby Theater, and was held on the third Saturday of each month. Now two separate parties that each drew in hundreds of eager electronic music patrons were at full force.
Euronight was canceled in October 2008, but that didn't stop Anthony Paul. He quickly became part of a new hot spot called Southern Star, which holds a weekly on Friday nights in Norfolk, Virginia. This is a party that's not to be missed!
If you’re a fan of house music then you should definitely NOT overlook Anthony Paul.
