Jeryl Orsino is an accomplished singer, songwriter and musician. After winning the Cabo Wabo Battle of the Bands at the Hard Rock Cafe in NYC Jeryl’s song "I Told You So" caught the attention of NYC radio's Z100 and “The Radio Chick” Leslie Gold. "I Told You So" was a final pick on NYC's Z100 "Radio Star" contest, hit 1 on the Charts at GarageRadio.com and is on the SBS Indie Music Sampler Vol. 10.
Her songs “Be With You” and “He’s a Whore,” are featured in the second episode of the new and groundbreaking web series, Venice. Jeryl’s other current projects include music for an animated series being produced by Powerful Beyond Imagination and a theme song called "Addicted to You" for an independent film to be released some time in 2010.
A New Jersey native who counts Queen, The Pretenders, Alanis Morissette, Blondie, Butch Walker and Top 40 Radio among her many music influences, Jeryl was named “The Peoples Choice" in Go Magazine’s "Chicks with Picks.”
Jeryl teamed up with producer Jim Ebert, who has worked with artists such as Madonna, Meredith Brooks, Butch Walker, Cowboy Mouth, and Sophie B. Hawkins to record her second CD "Radio Friendly" at Cue Studios in Falls Church, Virginia.
In addition to NYC’s Hard Rock Café, Jeryl has performed at The Spiral, CBGB's, Kenny Castaway's, The Bitter End, and Downtime. She also has booked shows at Acme Underground, Arlene Grocery, The Continental and nationally and is currently booking shows for 2010.
“She is by far one of the top artists that we have had perform here. She has great energy and her music is fresh and original. She seems to possess the right mix of rock and pop along with great lyrics. Jeryl has a great command of the stage and always seems to have the crowd in the palm of her hand.”
─ John Pasquale, manager of the NYC Hard Rock Cafe
A member of OUTMUSIC and a veteran performer at numerous Pride festivals, Jeryl is in the running to be a performer at the Lilith Fair. Jeryl has written and donated songs to the Songs of Love Foundation, and is a regular on HomoPod Radio and OUTVOICE. Jeryl has also appeared on the Uncle Floyd Show and is a featured artist on WNEW Indie spotlight.
Her song "So Many Things" is the theme song of the California based cable TV show Sidewalks Entertainment which made it network TV prime time premiere on Thanksgiving 2009. Jeryl's song "19" is the theme song for the documentary Sentencing the Victim that aired on the PBS program Independent Lens. And MTV’s Laguana Beach featured Jeryl’s song "Stupid" in its first season. "Stupid" is on The Female Musicians "Listen Learn and Groove Radio CD" Series and Helzberg Diamonds compilation "Diamonds in the Rough." Other compilations include "G" Global 1 released by Woobie Bear Productions and Kid Antrim Music K.A.M Rock Compilation.
You can check her out on the Daisy Rock Girl Guitar website as an endorser. Jeryl is strung up by Knucklehead guitar strings.
Jeryl was born and raised in New Jersey but traveled a lot with her parents as her dad, Johnny, played professional baseball for 15 years, eight years in the Major Leagues, highlighted in 1963 when he batted .272 with 19 home runs and 56 RBIs for the Baltimore Orioles and was named to the end of season American League All-Star Team.
Her mom, who Jeryl says is, “the best stage Mom anyone could ever have’ was a high school beauty queen and Penn State graduate.
As a child Jeryl would sit in her room for hours listening to her favorite radio stations, trying to catch the songs she loved and making mixed tapes to listen to later. Her record
collection consisted of Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Billy Joel, Queen,
Genesis, Pat Benetar, Journey, The Pretenders, The Police and many, many more.
Her first real instruments were a Gibson Bass guitar and a no name drum kit
from the local music store.
However, as a star volleyball and softball athlete, Jeryl didn’t fully pursue music as a career until she finished college. Soon after graduation her brother Jay started a cover band and needed a bass player so Jeryl learned all the tunes and that was her first "real" gig.
Once Jay and Jeryl tired of playing cover songs, Jay started writing his own music and
they formed a power trio called Superheated. Jeryl played bass for the touring band
until she decided to buy her first acoustic guitar. In the comfort of her living
room in Elmwood Park, NJ, with the tablature to the Counting Crows album "August
and Everything After", Jeryl taught herself some of their songs to learn some basic chords on the guitar. Singing had also become a new adventure and she spent hours laying down tracks on a Tascam cassette 4 track, which is where the songs for her first CD "Everything and Nothing" were born.
To this day, Jeryl does not know how to read music and says, “I learned to sing so I could just get the songs down on my 4 track. It was a necessity to try and release all this creativity and the songs that I had rolling around in my head.”
When Jeryl is not busy writing, recording or playing music, she is still an avid athlete and is training for her second New Jersey Ride Against Aids on Sept. 24-26, 2010. A 250 mile cycling ride to raise awareness and money to “Help Make AIDS History,” Jeryl is donating $1.00 of every download of her "Radio Friendly" CD to the NJRAA.
$1.00 for every download of "RADIO FRIENDLY" and .10 for every induvidual song download will be going to the NEW JERSEY RIDE AGAINST AIDS beneficiaries. Please help me MAKE AIDS HISTORY.
Jeryl's song "19" from the CD "Everything and Nothing"is featured in a documentary that aired on Independent Lens on PBS called " Sentencing The Victim"
