Rare Moods. is the result of long time collaboration between Liam Farrel, aka Doctor L, ubiquitous musician and producer and Manu Boubli, head of Comet Records.
Melting influences as different as Talking Heads, Sun Ra, Moodyman, Georges Clinton, Fela Kuti, DJ Shadow or Pink Floyd, Rare Moodss music is the missing link between spiritual jazz from the 70s, abstract hip-hop and Detroit techno sounds.
Following Silk, a first 4 tracks EP thats been supported by the like of Gilles Peterson (Worldwide), Michael Ruetten (Soulpatrol/Compost Radio Show), Darren Knot (Ninja Tune Radio Show) and many more, they released Peace In Da Neighborhood, Rare Moods first album.
Bringin back to the scene underground Soul diva Silky Spearman (Silk) or french funk singer Dom Farkas (Mystery Lane), Peace In Da Neighborhood moves from mid-eastern jazz sounds (Cape Of Good Hope) to latin floor-filler (Oil On Fire) and from modern gospel soul (A Kind Of Fool) to hypnotic dancefloor jazz (Peace In Da Neighborhood). The entire album is a trip through sounds and music, deeply inspired by the musical masters from the past but also clearly modern and inventive !
Naturally, Manu & Liam started Mind Records & Service Corp., their brand new outfit, on which they already released 4 albums ('The Real Thing', Psyco's 'There Must Be A Revolution Somewhere', Broken 'Better Luck Next Time' & Not Your Frequency 'Communication By Transfusion')!
More to come soon with 2 Doctor L albums as well as a new project, Zebra, a collaboration with legendary Fela Kuti's drummer and old friend Tony Allen...

THE DIARY Volume 1.5 (20 Years of the Remix) now available for free download at WWW.MUSICOFSUBSTANCE.COM!
“This CD just shows how much Chris Read knows about historic Hip Hop production techniques - Its just a shame he wasn't creating this stuff during the eras he's covering as we would probably rate the man as being up there with Paul C, Pete Rock, Premier and all! - I can't think of another Hip Hop CD I've played so much in years” (ANDY SMITH - PORTISHEAD)
"Chris continues the rap anthology concept of his super-dope 'The Diary' megamix in the shape of a remix project, re-lacing acapellas from 89-2009 with historically accurate beats. 'The Diary 1.5' serves as a great platform for Chris to showcase his ample beat-making skills whilst referencing those who've inspired him." (DJ WOODY - FORMER WORLD ITF CHAMPION)
“Wicked! The perfect companion to The Diary Mixtape. Shows an impressive knowledge of sounds from all eras.” (MR THING - FORMER WORLD DMC CHAMPION)
"Crazy! This is Rap History in the making. Chris proves his production skills on this one to the fullest. A wonderful and refreshing journey through all eras of hip hop. Double thumbs up!" (MARC HYPE - FORMER ITF CHAMPION)
