I would only say ... She always put a smile on my face, and her ora was a circle of love that touched everyone within her voice. Her mother was an Angel that brought Sable and her sister in to the world to make life FLASHY, HAPPY,and LOVING. Coral we will all miss Sable Starr! She helped to make ROCK and ROLL the roots of what we listen to today by being what she always was LOVE, HAPPINESS, AND THE HOTTEST LOOKING GIRL ON THE PLANET! Sable I want you to know, thank you for all you did for me, and helped me with, It was a pleasure partying on National Television with you, being back stage to see your happy face and crazy corkscrew blond/ plat white hair, you were so so full of FUN, LOVE , and you were REAL...No miss you know who there. ®™I use this quote because this is how I feel about Sable Starr. I saw her once and never forgot her for 36 years. Taking risks, daring to look like no one has done before, that is the reality of Sabel Starr. Her willingness to try anything set her on the path to becoming the TRUE "Queen of the Groupies". What you saw was what you got. Bad-ass and sexy. That's what drew everyone who came to LA to seek her out. No one passed through without asking about Sabel Starr or wanting to meet her. I believe she is the most popular groupie these days (forever in my eyes of course) because she is so elusive to everyone. Not putting herself out there like others have. She's the real deal. Sabel was the girl who was cool enough to hang with anybody. The girl who said what was on her mind. The girl that every guy wanted. Sabel has all the qualities that all the older groupies wished they had - THAT is reality.

My introduction to the fabulous Sabel Starr came through ROCK SCENE magazine in the her now famous shot with Shady Lady’s bassist, Gerhard Helmut & Leee Black Childers. Mr. Childers was hosting a party for the visiting Cherry Vanilla and the Stooges (whom he had been babysitting, as well as Sabel). She had these awesome star-shaped glasses on and looked stunning. Next came Star Groupie Magazine and the famous shots and interview taken in that publication. Star Groupie Magazine became my bible and Sabel Starr, my MUSE. As a 12 year old fat girl who had left her home with her family in the city for suburban life and had nothing but plaid to stare at for the next 3 years, Sabel was a breath of fresh air. While I always lived with quite the independent mind and ways of dress, Sabel’s style led me to create a whole new persona. There was a small shop in our town where a Jimi Hendrix lookalike worked. I’d bring in my pics of Sabel and tell him exactly what I wanted to look like. He’d come up with these great outfits and if you think I had troubles in school before, you can imagine how the plaid-wearing, cheerleading and nerd squads gave me shit after that. But it was well worth it. While I WAS copying someone else, to me, like any other muse….that was the point. Inspiration. And she gave it to me.

When Sabel met up with the Dolls and the talented, handsome and funky Johnny Thunders, it was like a match made in heaven. His talent and playing style have never been matched to this day. Always, joined at the hip and in my eyes, up there with the most famous lovers of all time. I think of them as a rock n’ roll version of Liz Taylor and Richard Burton. Volatile but oh-so-in-LOVE!!!!!!! While it lasted.

I lived most of my suburban years being made fun of because of the way I dressed and the music I listened to, but my love and adoration for Sabel reshaped me into a totally different person. I danced to the Dolls in my room dressed in a Danskin silver lame bodysuit, tight black scarf tied around my thick waist and my Fred Slatten platforms. While I pined to be a West Coast gal, I made up for it in spades on the East Coast as soon as I hit the age of 15. You couldn’t keep me away from the City so I moved back, waved bye-bye to the suburbs and enrolled in a new high school where I was – believe it or not – accepted for myself. Every weekend, my friends and I would head to the city and the clubs.

I was never a groupie but I always managed to get myself just close enough to where the action was. Never a dull moment. I would dream I would see Sabel. What would I say to her? What would I do? Would I pee myself or just faint? Ah, those were the days.

If you speak to people who have known her, she was a lot of fun and up for everything. I have a lot of issues with older groupies who put her down. They made fun of her looks and what she wore, but were the FIRST to copy her and steal her title as “QUEEN OF THE GROUPIES”.

Sabel Starr is an icon of the 70’s. She quieted down somewhat in the later years and I lost track of her other than a few pics I have of her and Blondie, Stiv and Malcolm. But, like I said above, she saved my life. Took me from a very sad and unhappy place and established a totally different woman. Made me who I am today. Sabel if you are out there, please know that I have adored and looked-up to you for 36 years. I would like to thank you for giving me back my life.

I have read a lot of the books by other groupies and they can be very nasty when it comes to Sable and the other younger groupies in general. It seems that Sable can't be bought and THATS WHAT I RESPECT ABOUT HER. I only think that one woman out there (Pamela who?) out of them all harbors an intense hatred for her and I think that when and if Sable decides to come out with a book, it will kick ass. Pamela Des Barres has been horrible in referring to Sabel's looks and that is something that has always bothered me. (Refer to my blog). She especially has claimed to be hated by the younger girls and I’m starting to think that maybe it had something to do with HER attitude. But who knows?? I wasn’t there. Sorry Pamela fans. I just dont "get" Pamela's self-promotion and love of herself...she's no better than anyone else. Listen, I was dancing in my room somewhere at the time so what do I know????? To me, Pamela was just as sexually promiscuous as the others, so really she had no room to talk. To present herself as innocent is absurd. Sable may not have been into sewing and embroidering for her guys but they seemed to like her because they always wanted to see her. And it seems that I remember reading that Pamela headed for the corsets and garters AFTER seeing Lori, Sable and Queenie doing the same. Sable was Sable and that was that. A TRUE ORIGINAL!!! She may have had a bit of an attitude and loved herself a bit too much (if you read her STAR interview with Queenie, you’ll notice it) but I don’t think she had a jealous bone in her body. She may have wanted Bowie and Lori got him first but she did eventually end up in bed with him so she was happy. She may have wanted her way when she wanted something and when she didn’t get it, she might have pulled a hissy-fit or two and yeah, she could have been a bit nasty.....but listen, I’m no groupie but I know it’s got to be a cut-throat biz. ®™

Sable. You are forever in my heart and I truly love you. RIP Sweet Angel.
