Andrew's Interests
|
| General | Role-Playing-Games [Dungeons & Dragons, White-Wolf, Champions, etc], Reading [fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, biography, non-fiction, but especially the literary classics] writing [poetry and prose, though not nearly as much as I used to], working out, movies [not many comedies, but I'm open to everything else, I love action movies.] Playing basketball, watching sports [football, baseball, hockey, pro-wrestling], getting coffee at IHOP with friends, philosophy, religion, politics, debating in general. | | Music | I like any type of music, quite literally, but I do have a few preferences. I love country music and listen to it when I'm on my own pretty much all the time. I love goth-industrial, great to dance too. 80's and classic rock are fantastic too; I love the Eagles and Tracy Chapman. Everything else has its place and time, there's very little music I actually dislike, and none comes to mind at the moment. | | Movies | Same goes for movies that went for music, I like almost every genre. I don't watch comedies very often, but they're enjoyable now and again. I do love action movies; Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Boondocks Saints, Demolition Man, etc... Rounders is also one of my favorites, I think I watched that movie once a week for quite a while. When I play poker with my friends I quote it all the time. Other than that, anything goes. | | Television | My taste in television makes most of my friends wince, except for the few that watch the shows with me of course. I actually watch very little tv, but when I do I watch Highlander, 7 Days, MacGyver, Pro-wrestling, and anything Joss Wheaton's ever done. I know, pretty weird mix, but I like it none the less. --- In general though, I don't get to watch much, as my friends, my job, and trying to persue my dream of teaching keep me pretty busy. | | Books | With books also just about any type goes. I've been reading Clinton's autobiography recently and a book on Swartzenager's history from Austria to today. I've read JRR Tolkien's , The Lord of the Rings 13 times, as well and most of the supplemental books like the Silmarilian (I even like the movies, despite a few large complaints I have). I've read all the Harry Potter books, they're very cool. I love The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazney. If you like sci-fi/fantasy, you should check that one out, it's cool, though not very well known. And I absolutely love Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. It's so well written and rich with dozens of symbolic levels. I've written four different papers on it in college, love it.
--- Right now I'm reading Vice Flynn and Dan Brown a lot, as well as trying to catch up on the classics I've missed (Don Quixote, Mark Twain, John Milton, Dante, etc...) | | Heroes | There's no big name in Hollywood or anywhere else that I look up to all that much, most of them are incredibly screwed up people with way too much money. I definitely look up to every teacher that does their job with pride and passion (not many of them obviously) and any soldier in the world putting his life on the line to protect the way of life we love so much; I'm man enough to admit that I'm glad I don't have to do it and I look up to them for having the bravery necessary to do it themselves. The few "stars" I do look up to are the ones that got rich and famous and are now doing good with it; giving back to their community, helping out where money's needed, speaking out for good causes, etc. |

About me:
The following does not apply to cosiderate people who read profiles or Bands advertising themselves. If you are one of these 2 entities, please skip to my actual profile below the dashesP:
Look, I can't believe I'm adding this on here cause I thought people would know it goes without saying, but if you're gonna ask to be on my friends list, then email me and say something about yourself. You know, I hear friends speak to one another and know things about eachother and such. It doesn't have be your life story, just something... anything. I feel like I'm lowering my IQ by even saying this to people, but it seems it needs to be said. For all those much smarter than the above situation, please pretend you didn't even read it and enjoy. #1 on this list of frustrations is the "hot girls" who want to advertise their nude pictures sites. Don't get me wrong, I'm a red blooded american male, but these girls piss me off. They (or their spamming pimp) don't care about any of us and certainly don't read our profiles. Arrrrg!

Well, I'm a 25 year old graduate who majored in English who's trying to complete his Education certificate around a rather intensive work week. I wouldn't usually introduce myself like that, but it's a good preamble to saying that my biggest dream in life is to become a high school English teacher. My friends have been giving me flak about how I must be a masochist on that one for years, so feel free to join them.
I'm haven't quite figured out the teaching thing yet, but I'm working on it, and in the mean time am lucky enough to have a job I don't dread going to every morning (just some of them). I work in Client Relations at a health insurance administrator: I basically spend 9+ hours a day trying to keep the people with all the money we want happy and help avert major emergencies as they arise. It's hardly Management or anything, but I'm basically the most important of the grunts in the trenches.
And now if you're still interested I'll tell you the basics of the "who are you" question, since my job definitely doesn't go anywhere in defining that. In my free time I read, write (though not much of late), work out, go to clubs in DC, play poker with friends, wander DC on nice days, and drink coffee while catching up with old friends; and of course the most important of my hobbies: playing RPGs (you know; D&D, White Wolf, etc...). Politically, I'd call myself liberal; though there are some big issues that I'm share the conservative view on. These days most people say that means I'm a Libertarian, but I'm not sure that fits either. I basically have my views and they put me in a different category with each one I voice. Religiously I'm a Methodist, but I have friends ranging from Catholic to Wiccan, so all are welcome. I love to debate and learn, so feel free to come armed with knowledge on any of those or other controversial issues. The furthering of thought is the only way we grow and change for the better, so I always welcome it; well, not when I'm too exhausted to think, but all other times. So if you'd like to chat, any reason will do; If you want to chat, then I love to learn and debate, so feel free. Talk to y'alll soon I hope.
I'd put my email and IM up here for y'all, but then any yahoo could get hold of it. If you message me on here I'll be happy to give you either or both though. I don't write in here too often, so if you want to just keep up with me, check out my journal on LiveJournal at "GeminianPoet". Talk to y'all later.

Who I'd like to meet:
As far as the dating thing goes, I'm always as interested as a guy can be in meeting fun, beautiful, interesting, driven women; but I am a little taken at the moment, having asked a girl I've known for about 5 years now to marry me and answered, "yes". It's a long interesting road we've had over the last year and a half, and I hope it's far from over. In any case, if you're a fun, beautiful, interesting, driven woman, I hope I get to meet you anyway, as I'm sure you're a fantastic person to know even in the plutonic sense. :-)
---
On a somewhat related note, I'm interested in meeting anyone with something to say. I don't have to agree with you, but you do need to be interesting. The more you have to discuss, the better. I went to a liberal arts college and loved it for this very reason, and I look for people who can keep up that old tradition. Other than that, any motivation will do, as long as it's interesting. I could never have enough friends, so adding a few more would be cool. If you just want to chat cause work's slow and no one else you know is on, that's do too. Bottom line; any topic, any person, any time, just have a good time. Talk to you soon perhaps.
