Area Health Education Center (AHEC) of Southwest Oregon is an organization that covers 17,000 miles in the southwest part of Oregon and serves Coos, Curry, Douglas, Jackson and Josephine counties. AHEC's goal is to focus its resources on the healthcare needs of rural and underserved populations; organize and coordinate training opportunities for rural healthcare providers to enable clinicians to keep abreast of emerging issues; place healthcare students in rural clinical rotation to motivate tomorrow's providers to start practices in rural Oregon; encourage youth to pursue a career in healthcare; collaborate with rural communities in securing grants to help respond to the healthcare needs of the region.
