Influences
Being the stewards of dates, locations, and facts that no one else really cares about; willfully and maliciously ignoring all the rules of spelling, punctuation, capitalization and common sense, when unsupervised; Salvador Dali; the Clancy Brothers; the Watersons; Johnny Cash; AC/DC; Ozzy Osbourne; Iron Maiden; Judas Priest; The Pogues; R & B; The Who; Led Zeppelin; Tom Waits; Steve Earle; Roger McGuinn; Pete Seeger; Songs of the Sea; Italian Fascists; Spanish Fascists; American Fascists; International Communism; astronauts, and space robots!; just about any flavor of KRAMPUS; the golden age of German submarining, the age of sail, the Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire, and the Evil Empire; people who hate crappy music that sucks; splinter-cell softball teams and pool leagues, drywall crews, and building entire stage sets from collections of nothing too terribly important; pimps, wimps, cowboys, gypsies, god-damned pirates, coalminers, moonshiners, hillbillies, gangsters (gangster hillbillies, in reality, are best), old timey music, vagabonds and vagrants. Bulldogs, chihuahuas, corgis, and canary birds. Geese, goats, and delicious pies. Ice cold beer, piping hot coffee, and well-brewed tea. Pusser's Rum. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. All that and a decent BBQ doesn't hurt, either. MAL VIENTO!
Sounds Like
a huge WALL OF SOUND; but not that scary, bad-hair, clinically-insane-and-now-behind-bars Phil Spector kind of wall-of-sound, but more like 12 people making as much noise as possible, in a good way.
Southern Illinois's Premier Pirate Swing Ensemble. Breaking things and people with ridiculous regularity from 2000 to 2009. R.I.P., Bourbon Knights.
NEW CD ** KRAMPUSNACHT ** now available for sale at THE PRACTICE PAD, PMAC MUSIC and PLAZA RECORDS in beautiful CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS! Our three previous CDs are available there, too!
IF YOU CANNOT PLAY OUR SONGS, and only get a really annoying box that tells you that you have to download the latest Flash player, it's because MySpace is run by douchebags who want to force you to upgrade. If you are running a Mac wih OS 10.3.9, there's a workaround, thanks to my new favorite person on the planet, DANA KERSTEIN, which I'm posting in our blog.
STACE ENGLAND says: "Southern Illinois’ Bourbon Knights announced early this year they were ending the party, and for those around the globe not in the know this was something akin to a death in the family. Maybe the crazy old uncle full of interesting stories, the one and only person you looked forward to seeing at family reunions. The Knights' often elaborate live shows were always raucous affairs, early on wondering how many people they would cram onto small stages, how much alcohol they would consume, and guessing the decibel level of audience members joining in the shout along choruses. Along the way, sometimes imperceptibly, this loveable, ramshackle ensemble evolved into one of the most interesting bands in America." Read the rest in our Blog! Thanks, Stace!
CHRIS WISSMANN of the NIGHTLIFE says: "Because their CD-release party was also their farewell performance, the Bourbon Knights haven't promoted their swan song Krampusnacht with a series of gigs as most bands would. Quite a shame, really-- the CD is a typically wild, loopy excursion, with open-throated, caterwauling vocals set to drunken, woozy rhythms and melodies. From Irish music to seafaring pirate chanties to eastern European and middle-eastern dance music, all played with a slight punk undertow, Krampusnacht captures the expanding breadth of the Bourbon Knights, and shows the band was still growing. That's the sad news: Krampusnacht doesn't demonstrate a band at its logical conclusion, but one with plenty of ideas left to explore. If fans will mourn the untimely disbanding of the group (especially since their last show at PK's couldn't nearly hold all the people who lined up outside to see the performance), they will most appreciate that the Knights of Bourbon did at least leave a way to relive the band's trademarked shameless, insane debauchery. Moreover, Krampusnacht shows that the Bourbon Knights' sloppy excess was merely an affectation-- the playing is extremely tight and focused, with the band perfectly pulling off dramatic tempo changes and style shifts. There never will be another band quite like them." Thanks, Chris!

Noticed. It's just that my CPU is reserved for higher pursuits of intellect. I only debased myself on here because of a false alarm friend invite from the Sebastien-Roch Nicolas De Chamfort preservation society. Ta.
Your new cd is amazing. After moving to Carbondale last year without knowing anyone, one of the first things we did was see a Bourbon Knight's show. You've left an incredible mark on me and my wife. I know how hard it is to keep three great friends in a band together, and I can't imagine how hard it is to have so many more to worry about. Thank you Bourbon Knights for everything! Here's to all of ya!
Thanks for the heller show last night. I have enjoyed your shows through the years and hope to see all of you play again whether seperate or together. Your Krampus has been my one holiday traditiion and I'll be thinking of you for christmass to come. Thanks again and I love you guys and gals. also go look at the pics.
We are pleased to announce the release of a special, limited edition book, entitled “How We Prosper: Songs from the Book of Strawfoot”, released by Vicious Books.
H.W.P. is a full color song book that blends our gig posters with song lyrics from our first album, as well as a preview of some of our songs from our upcoming album.
Every cent raised fromthe sale of this book goes directly towards recording costs, so for those sinners out there that have been a clamoring for our next album, this is a great way to expedite the process.
So, do you want that new artwork? Hmmmmmmm??? Or do you just click "approve" on these comments and just jog on, without reading them or looking at them? Hmmmmm????
