hates:
Non thinkers, violence, war, George Bush, Tony Blair and his puppets, Left wing traitors...ie Labour!!
banned from the Roxy? So fucking what!! Crass were punks beyond punk. Playing free gigs for fans and doing benefit gigs for striking miners....not selling out big arenas, doing coke backstage or just selling out.
True orginals, true to the visions of what Punk was supposed to be about.
Fight War not Wars...mr Bush N Blair perhaps?!
Sure there were runblings in the concrete jungle that was NYC before Television....the Dolls spring to mind, that hinted at what was to come but I think that the band Television more than any other helped to create and define what became to be known as Punk in the 1970's. They belong 2 the Blank Generation & built CBGB'S stage!!
Check out Viva's My Space page, particularly if you think you're "punk" but are still happily eating meat! Reevaluate your opinion now...please. By eating meat you directly kill over 1000 animals per year, just because someone else does your dirty work for you doesn't make it right. Please even just have a look, go veggie if you care!
Animals do have rights too....you don't think? Have a look at Peta's space if you don't think so and the suffering caused for your stupid plate of food! Still think you can't live without that steak?....they can't!! Go veggie now!!
Animals do have rights too....you don't think? Have a look at Peta's space if you don't think so and see the suffering caused for your stupid plate of food! Still think you can't live without that steak?....they can't!! Go veggie now!!
Yeah that's right, The Clash were simply THE greatest rock n roll band ever...and they came out of Punk! Why? Helping to define a generation, being the voice of that generation, never selling out, staying true, believing in their fans, looking so fucking cool and lastly but not least THE MUSIC!! ..oh and where they took it! The Clash.
pioneering pre-punk New Yorker. Check out all their records....Man Enough 2 Be A Woman and this single Fuck Off will blow your mind!! Full titlte of Fuck Off is actually (If you dont want to fuck me baby) Fuck Off!! Punk Rawk!!
Why are The Saints soo fucking good you ask?! You don't ask?!! You must be deaf!!!!
Yup, Brisbane's finest are one of THE greatest ever punk bands...and if you don't already know that, then it's time to wise up sucker!!
Formed in 75...yes 75!!! In Australia!!!...Yes, organically...of their own making, one of the pioneers of punk rock!
Legs McNeill and John Holmstrom were leading figures in the pre-punk NYC scene that was burgeoning in the early 1970's in venues such as CBGB's and primarily Max's Kansas City. They started a magazine and approached Lou Reed to appear on the cover of it's 1st issue. Little did they know how famous thier "Punk" was to become!!
Cat's are most certainly the lovelist, coolest, funniest animals...in the WORLD!! There are also unfortunately a lot of unneutered cats...hence, a lot of poor wee kitties without homes. Please if you can't re-home a cat, please donate something so the CPL volunteers can at least feed and neutere them.
CATS MAKE GREAT PETS!!
Well, I suppose it's tattoo week for me and a big part of it's in memory to the guy above Mr John Mellor....or as he's better known Joe Strummer, lead singer with the world's greatest ever rock band The Clash!
I've been a clash fan for nearly 23 years now and I can tell you, this guy still seems as cool as fucking ever!
I've been a fan of Veruca Salt since 94 when thier debut single seether came out...which know doubt lots of you liked. Check out thier latest album "IV"...I promise you it's fucking amazing. A lot of bands stagger on without a founding member(s). I can assure you Veruca Salt are as good even though. All Hail Veruca Salt!!
I adore the Pumpkins, have done for 16 years. I just got a blog from them today which nearly stunned me...Siamese Dream is 15 yrs old!! God!! My fav Pumpkins album incidentally. Anyway, adore this pic of Billy, Jimmy and Lisa rockin out on tour recently. The Machines Of God indeed!!!
I first saw The Pixies on TV maybe late 88 on a show called Snub where the played Vamos at the Town and Country Club supporting the amazing Throwing Muses. I then bought Surfer Rosa, but it was only when I saw them live in Germany in 89 that I realised how brilliant they really were!...they were 2nd bottom of the bill if I remember right!
Aaah, the real Jane's Addiction!! Jane's were my favourtie band from 88-91 and this is the band I remember following all around the country as a mowhaked teenager! Before the late 90's then the subsequent reformation when things became a bit too Hollywood. Don't get me wrong, I still love them but this is how I prefer to remember JA!!
The best footage I've seen of the Pistols in their heyday in a long long time. I thought I'd seen everything...so this is rare!....it also happens to be pretty fucking incredible!! Enjoy Myspacers!
For a long time Throwing Muses were just about my fav band. This song, Not Too Soon is from their 1991 album The Real Ramona, the last Muses lp to feature Tanya Donelly. My 2nd fav Muses album after House Tornado. This is a great song and is my first Muses post but I'm also posting another....also from The Real Ramona...but with Kristin!
As promised, the 2nd THrowing Muses installment from their 1991 tour of The Real Ramona, this footage is from Rockpalast Festival in Germany.
This is one of my favourite Throwing Muses songs...so enjoy!!
Check out this vid of the wonderful Lisa Germano doing a live version of We Suck from her excellent 3rd lp Excepts From A Love Circus which was released in 1996. She's being making great music for many many years and I love her. She's a big fan of cats too which is always a good thing!! :-)
The amazing Mr Richard Lloyd...yup Television's right hand man captured with his new band Surf Monkey Trio, also featuring Televison drummer Billy Ficca.
Dick Lloyd...guitar fucking god...this man is blessed!!!
How much influence did the Dolls have?! Well, possibly they were so influnetial in gelling the whole early pre-punk NY scene togther that without them and their fucking brilliant outrageousness, punk might never have happened as we know it. Big tip of your hat to the Dolls and of course the late great genius of Johnny, Arthur and Jerry.
I love Juliana Hatfield. She's made amazing music for many many years without the recognision she probably deserves. A brilliant brilliant songwriter. This song is from Beautiful Creature...if there was any justice this song would have been number 1....sadly my utopian universe doesn't exist yet!!! Enjoy and check her out.
The one and only Television shoe for the BBC in 1978 shortly before their premature break up doing the single Foxhole from their brilliantly underrated 2nd album Adventure. One of my all time favourite bands and one of the formative punk bands. Television formed in 1973 by poets Tom Verlaine and Richard Hell.
Of interest to all fans of the Pistols, here are the original US news reports of Sid's arrest for Nancy's murder and Sid's subsequent premature death. I'm just posting this for factual interest as as much as I love Sid, he was the victim in all of this. Sid became his alter ego and it destroyed the poor guys life.
Transsexual pioneering pre punk Wayne County, now Jayne County with his brilliant band The Electric Chairs. This guy has bigger balls than anyone (even now post op!!). He even took on Handsome Dick Manitoba from The Dictators once!!
If you don't know about Wayne..then check him out. He's in Jubilee too.
My 2nd favourite band of all time, the Smashing Pumpkins. I fell in love with the Pumpkins in 92 and would go anywhere I could to see them live and have luckily seen them a lot.
Snail is one of my favs as it sums up the band brilliantly in 1 song. The gentleness, the blistering rock, Jimmy's crashing drum sound & the jaw dropping leads!
I loved and still love Adore, it's such a beautiful, gentle record.
This is one of my all time favourite Pumpkins tunes too For Martha. It was a really personal song for Billy as it was about his mother Martha's recent death from cancer. Jimmy had also not long succumed to his drug problem and was asked to leave the band hence a dark LP.
I love Sleater-Kinney, they are one of my favourite bands ever and definitely one of the best live bands I've ever seen in my life.
This song is Jumpers which is about suicide and was their final ever single, taken from thier last record The Woods.
Miss them as much as ever. God bless Corin, Carrie and Janet! Viva SK!!
I have very fond memories of the whole 2Tone era as it kick started my love affair with all things music...I was 8yrs old. Madness and The Specials, what better start could a boy get.
Do Nothing sums up that era in the UK, desponancy everywhere. I still love listening to this. "We're just living in a life without meaning" sums up 1980!
another great moment from The Specials great 2nd lp More Specials, Hey Little Rich Girl.
The Specials, what a bloody band, choc full of genuises. Too many personalities for one band to cope with for too long probably. Ghost Town was such a perfect ending for any band but particularly when that band was The Specials.
For a man who was in a band as great as The Specials it seems strange maybe that he wrote his best song out of the context of that amazing band. I think his greatest moment is this, Our Lips Are Sealed wrtten with Jane Weilden from The Go Go's who I think had supported The Specials in the US and was the beginning of a long friendship.
As a teenager I absolutely loved The Damned. Here they are with, in my opinion, the best Damned line up: Scabies, Vanian, Algy Ward (ex Saints) and Sensible at their bloody anarchic best in 79. This is the infamous San Fran concert which is legendary amongst Damned fans.
Anarchy, Chaos and Destruction?!...yup and a bit more besides!!
A real fans fav of a Damned song here, Under The Floor Again taken from thier hugely underrated 1982 masterpeice Strawberries.
Not played live often. This is obviously The Damned with a newer line up playing it only a few years back. Still as great a song as ever though...enjoy the Captain's amazing guitar solo!
Respect people who crusade...sometimes illegally (the law's not always right you know!!) against animal cruelty. This is a cool site that sells ethical cool clothes and they donate all profits to stopping animal abuse. Respect!
Aaaaw, this reminds me of my teenage years, a fresh wee punk!
Riot and Moon Over Marin are two of my fav DK's songs, both on my fav DK's album Plastic Surgery Disasters. I used to play in a punk band in my early twenties and practically forced the guys in my band to cover Moon Over Marin and I used to love playing it. That guitar riff!!
