BRIEF HISTORY OF 3 BLACQUE CHIX -- (More information available at www.3BlacqueChix.com Veteran actresses Iona Morris, Lola Love and Mariann Aalda, formed 3 Blacque Chix Productions in November, 2004, with the goal of serving an audience that was once “Waiting to Exhale”…and which was then left holding its breath by an entertainment industry that failed to follow through with sufficient product for “seasoned” women – particularly women of color – hungry for their stories to be told. “Herotique-Aahh…,” a bawdy and provocative “sexistential comedy” celebrating women over forty …and those planning on living to be (and the men, and sometimes the women who love them) – which the trio also co-wrote and co-star in – is 3 Blacque Chix’ inaugural production and the first part in a trilogy which the company intends to franchise with multiple companies and DVD distribution. With their debut as a cabaret act in February, 2005, as “a foreplay to Valentine’s Day” at the trendy L. A. hotspot, Club 5 Lounge – to standing ovations and packed houses which continued throughout its entire six-month run; being lauded as the runaway hit of the 2005 National Black Theatre festival in Winston-Salem, N.C. – and with their recent critically acclaimed premiere at Fremont Center Theatre in Pasadena, as a full-scale theatrical production – 3 Blacque Chix Productions has taken several giant steps toward the accomplishment of its goals. “The Dominatrix,” Lady L, is played by Lola Love, who spent more than a decade traveling the world as a performer with “Godfather of Soul,” James Brown, and is featured in the documentary, When We Were Kings. “The Reformed Stepford Wife,” Lady M, is played by Mariann Aalda, who launched her career in improv and sketch comedy with The Proposition and Off-Centre Theater troupes in N.Y., and whose TV credits include series-regular roles in the CBS sitcom, The Royal Family, HBO’s First & 10, and four years as “DiDi Bannister” on the ABC soap opera, Edge of Night. “The Goddess of Love & Sexual Freedom,” Lady I, is played by Iona Morris, who, in addition to being a series-regular on The Adventures of Ark for the Discovery Channel, is also the original voice of Storm in the X-Men cartoon series and recipient of a Hollywood NAACP Image Award for her work in theater. She comes by her talent naturally, her father, Greg Morris, was one of the stars of the hit 70’s TV series, Mission Impossible. “The media would have us believe that a woman being desirable and having a satisfying sex life after forty was an impossible mission, too,” she says, “but we 3 Blacque Chix prove otherwise!” As purveyors of sexual liberation and women’s empowerment, three women candidly sharing their carnal adventures with a captivated audience will inevitably draw comparisons to The Vagina Monologues. However, according to Lady L: “…there is no comparison, because we don’t discriminate…we celebrate all genitalia equally!” “The overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic responses we’ve received from both women and men telling us how much we have ‘liberated’ and ‘inspired’ them,” says Aalda “have made us realize that our show is offering more than just entertainment…it’s also administering a sexual healing.
