3 Green Cows is a continuous musical and artistic project formed in 1996 by a group of friends. Though the line-up has openly and welcomely fluctuated over the years, the current and arguably the "core" of the group is Alex Finlay V, Rebecca Smith-Finlay, Daniel Hammond, Eric Rivera, and filmmaker Andre Callot.
The group has been separated by geography since about 2001 and has since exchanged ideas via email, recording songs over the internet (including the recent use of Indaba Music for Gorillas In The Mystical Vibrations). Once or twice a year the group gets together in one location (in some form or another) and hashes out new material. For example, in 2006, 3 Green Cows recorded "Damien's Day Off", 10 songs at a total of 30 minutes; the album was written, recorded, and mixed down to a final product within a 22-hour long session. This was for the Album-In-A-Day project.
Despite having been active for so long, the group has little releasable material and performs live maybe twice a year at best. Currently the band has 3 albums and 1 EP. New material and a film are currently in the works, and live performances are being thought of as something they'd like to do more often.
