The Month Magazine Review
Formed in the first half of 2006, Three kings consist of Ben Goddard, Owen Feeney, David Adams and Tom Sharratt.
The band haven't been together all that long in relation to some of their peers but an impressive attitude towards their work and an efficiency that’s lacking in too many other bands of their age, has meant that Three Kings have covered a lot of ground in the last 18 months or so.
In April this year Three Kings recorded their first album Power of the Sun and are back in the studio this month to record fresh material. One of their songs has been used as a sample track on Creative Zen Mp3 players and more of the bands work has been featured as a bonus track on a CD released by The Sunday Express. Perhaps not the most conservative way to go about promoting one's band; but an effective one nevertheless. The band’s myspace page has swollen to just under 25,000 plays and they supported Nizlopi at The Talking Heads in Southampton earlier this month. So what do they sound like? Such a question is not so easily answered.
Firstly, three of the four of them join in singing duties, so the vocal experience is a great one. Often earthy and subtle, the overall feel is as delicate as it is assured. Their psychedelic soul-scapes seem to ooze an unforced sense of joy and yearning, seldom found in many bands. Their sound maybe compared to early Beta Band in places or better less indulgent aspects of Gomez. There’s even a touch of Pink Floyd to be found amongst their meanderings. So a bizarre concoction; but a textured and stimulating concoction that should tantalise and excite even the most casual listener.
Check out the band’s myspace for more and tune into something wonderful. We've not heard the end of this.
