Heavily influenced by the sound, fury and Dada-inspired artistic sensibilities and cut-up techniques of electronica pioneers such as Cabaret Voltaire, Tackhead and Meat Beat Manifesto, 3kStatic is an electronica collective founded in 1999.
The group's recorded output has been featured on the past several seasons on the soundtrack of MTV's Real World and Road Rules, and has also being licensed for various television commercials and independent films.
Beginning with the 2004 release Perversion: For Profit, the band has garnered considerable notice, especially in Germany, where their often-times aggressive political comment was seen as a throwback to the earlier days of post-punk electronic and industrial music.
In addition to the ardently activist statements that have become a centerpiece of the band's output, the band has been said to fuse an "eclectic, Dadaist soundscape" into their sound, which incorporates elements of art rock, trip hop, funk and house into an often densely produced collage reminiscent of Dada art. Due to this clash of sounds and activist stance, their work has been described as "anarchist disco" and "post-industrial house"
The band's recent European album release The Great Republic (Cargo Records Germany) was selected as one of the label's Top 10 releases of 2006, and a recent single was selected for inclusion on the 'Songs of The Times' website curated by protest rock legend Neil Young.
The 3kStatic track 'Rail' also appears on the soundtrack of Liquid Vinyl, a documentary of rave music culture that features noted DJs Carl Cox, Mark Lewis and others. The film is scheduled for release in 2008.
The 3kStatic album - Voodoo Science - was released in the US on CD and digital formats 01.29.08 and spawned eight Top 10 tracks on download stores Rhapsody, Juno, AudioJelly, PlayDigital, eMusic, PlayItTonight. The single 'Showdown' featuring Parthenon Huxley of the Orchestra/ELO, Part II has to date been 1 (ambient) at Canadian retailer
PlayItTonight.com for 27 consecutive weeks.
Evolver, the new 3kStatic album was released 02.17.09 as a 2 CD set that also included Evolver: Distinctive Electronica, a complete Sony sound library. The first-ever Sony Creative Software release of an original album and library, Evolver also features notable guests Robert Bond, Kevin Max, Dave Manion and many others. Evolver and Evolver: Distinctive Electronica are available exclusively via Sony Creative Software.
Monkee Platez next offering is the OUT NOW 'Fulltilt EP' from Glasgow outfit Mr Hajika.
4 slabs of groove driven tech house...
Fulltilt original is a chugging, bass heavy track with a subtle musicality that develops throughout. Dr. Bergers remix is a stripped down deeper edit, with an infectious flow that maintains the essence of the original. Similarly to Dr. Berger, Alex Fiction strips back the layers to uncover an electronic soul which builds into an intelligently emotive interpretation, if slightly twisted. Completing the package is 'Nitemoves' which shares the big sound of Fulltilt, but with a more progressive, melodic vibe."
