REGGAE NIGHTS is every Thursday night @ Zen Meister Bar (1160 Airway Blvd El Paso, Tx 79925). .. Hosted by Ernesto Tinajero of RADIO LA CHUSMA, REGGAE NIGHTS features the best local, regional, and international reggae acts. DJs, MCs, and Live Bands performing Roots, Rocksteady, Ska, Dub, Dance Hall, and some Hip Hop. ....If you are a Reggae DJ, MC or Band and would like to play El Paso, contact: ernesto_tinajero@yahoo.com .... ...... .... THIRD ROOT is a drum group that mixes African and traditional indigeneous rhythms led by Ernesto Tinajero, founder of Afro-latin reggae band 'Radio La Chusma'. Acoustic Roots is Ernesto's solo project. .... In 2000, Ernesto moved from El Paso to San Diego in order to further his music studies. With open arms the S.D. community, took him in and began teaching him not only music, but a deeper connection to music and spirit. Studying under Juan Carlos Blanco, an internationally known instructor of Afro-cuban dance, music, and folklore; Victor Tapia, original conguero for B-Side Players; and all the teachers/ students for five years, Ernesto quickly gained confidence to be asked to perform for public presentations and private sacred rituals. Insructed by spirit to move back home, Ernie returned in 2006. .... For more on Radio La Chusma go to mysace/radiolachusma .... 3RD ROOT is named for the African influence on Mexican culture (la tercera raiz). Since the Olmeca Civilization(before the Spanish Conquest), there has been contact between groups from Africa and Mexico. Of course, slavery brought the noble Africans to the Americas permenantly. Hidden in most texts and no mention in "real" history, has left this important part of us out. But, just because you don't talk about it doesn't mean it's not there. Most people believe Mexican blood is a mix of Spanish and Native blood, which is true, but, what they don't know is the 3RD ROOT. Remember: Spain was ruled by the Moors for hundreds of years. -
