Hip-Hop duo 3to2 formed back in 2000, where Sectah and Minutz were studying in Burnie at College. Playing a lot of local shows in Burnie, Devonport and Ulverstone working with established artist and councils performing to crowds of up to 5000 whilst recording a demo.
In 2003 the boys relocated to Melbourne in a bid to increase their national profile and establish the group in both the vibrant live scene and the recording industry. The risk paid off almost immediately with 3to2 placing in the top20 of TripleJ's Tasmanian Unearthed and reaching the final of the Melbourne-based Launch Pad band scene.
The ABC's National Youth Radio Network has been a major factor in the band making a place for itself within an increasingly competitive hip-hop community. From the initial online exposure following the promising Unearthed result, the group has been able to build on the association with 3to2 achieving significant attention when their first creative collaboration with Melbourne's Taurean Blacque production collective was chosen as the theme for the nationally broadcast Triple J Hip-Hop Show for a period of 3 months at the end of 2004.
During this period the group began work on their debut EP with Beno from Taurean Blaque entitled Trading Blows. The release was published in late 2005 with the kind assistance of Tasmanian Regional Arts and was released in early 2006. They became an active participant in regular nights at Basemint (Drop Family), turning what was a chilled out RnB night into a hip-hop filled dance floor full of B-boy battles and freestyles all with special 3to2 performances. 3to2 were then given the opportunity by Revolver Upstairs to launch their own monthly hip-hop night. Expression Sessions which was specifically aimed at giving new talent a break. Encouraging young people to have a voice and motivating a spark of interest in the genre of hip-hop. This focus culminated in their 2005 Tasmanian Tour as part of National Youth Week. Other highlights include performances with Unearthed winners Fizard and regular outings with friends Awbs and Maundz, Microphone Addicts, Mynse, Border Jumpers and Assentrix’s just to name a few.
2005 has also been marked by increasing industry recognition for the group. Reaching the semi-finals of Nescafe Big Beak Competition, placed 7th in the hip-hop category of Music Oz, (Australia's premier unsigned bands competition), and in an exciting finish to the year were selected as part of the Marion Bay Falls Festival line-up.
2006 the group received a Buzz grant from the Australian Council to assist ongoing recording projects like their follow-up release the 3to2 Mixtape. Actively playing live shows at Funky Fresh ran by DJ The Master who has been involved with 3to2 since the beginning of the year. All the time making regular trips to Tassie for organised showcases by the group such as Hip-Hop Non-Stop, and a 3to2 Showcase with Altureism and Tempest up-coming local talents. They were featured artists on Edge Radio 99.3fm in May and made the semi-finals of Nescafe Big Break for the second time, performing in the Overland Poetry Festival where they lost sound performing accapella with the crowds help. Finishing the year touring NSW/ACT with Nurcha Records and a final performance for Noise TV.
07/08 “It’s time to get back in the Studio for a bit”. 3to2 are takin a much needed break from constant shows and is finally taking the time to focus on some new music
2008/ 3to2's Suffa,Slave,Expire a Release to be peeped, is almost complete we thank all the heads who have waited for us to pull our fingers out and get this shit happening.
Over the last 5 years 3to2 have clocked up some inpressive shows supporting and preforming alongside names such as,International hevay weights
