Biography of William H. MacArthur
Colonel, United States Air Force (Retired)
William MacArthur is a retired U.S. Air Force colonel whose thirty year career in security, intelligence and command positions coincided with the rise and fall of the Berlin Wall during the Cold War between the NATO and Warsaw Pact Nations. He entered the Reserve Officer Training Program at Lawrence College (now University), Appleton, Wisconsin and was commissioned a second lieutenant on June 7th, 1959, the day he graduated cum laude from the school. He attained a Master Degree (MS) in Business Management at the University of Colorado in 1966 through the Air Force Institute of Technology Program.
Key Air Force assignments of Col MacArthur include Defense Intelligence analyst and briefer supporting the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Secretary of the Air Force and congressional committees (1970-71); United States Air Forces, Europe lead planning officer for a Special Intelligence facility supporting a new NATO war head- quarters (1975-76); and Commander of a U.S. Base in Turkey supporting NATO contingencies (1977).
Colonel MacArthur met and married Peggi Melville in El Paso, Texas (1960) and they have four children, thirteen grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. Peggi lost her battle with breast cancer in 2007, sadly ending MacArthur's forty-seven year marriage.
