Pittsburgh, home of the five-time Superbowl winning Steelers, is known as the birthplace of champions. With hit mixtape features, prominent artist collaborations, and title of Freestyle Champ, J. Spoolz is destined to become another one of Pittsburghs victors. But in the path to greatness, life strategically places obstacles to test its opponents - obstacles that only the most deserving w0inners can overcome.
Spoolz was introduced to his share of these difficulties during his lifetime. In pursuit of a higher education and a career in basketball, J. Spoolz was forced to rely on hustling to pay for his dream. It was during this time that he learned the streets have a way of toying with ambition. After earning a few points in the game, Spoolz started to generate income. Thats when eyes began to follow him more closely and it wasnt long before someone decided they wanted a piece of his prosperity. Being robbed of all his savings would serve a valuable purpose it taught him the virtue of bouncing back by any means necessary. It was also a monumental turning point in his life.
Always drawn to music, J. Spoolz decided to leave the ball game for the rap game, a move which would prove to be favorable. In high school, he had been enrolled in a music tech class where he learned the basic ins and outs of piecing together instrumentals. Although skilled in his producing abilities, rapping was a more personal way to put his frustrations and life lessons into words. It completely expressed who he was and what he had gone through. At times, J. Spoolz is known for his bold, in-your-face rhymes and other times he delivers emotionally charged, conscientious verses with autobiographical songs like Have You Ever. The song won 106.7 WAMOs radio battle six weeks in a row. He would go on to win the same contest four more weeks with Beautiful and five weeks with Shake It (PK Poo featuring J Spoolz). The wins launched a huge buzz throughout Pittsburghs music community. Off the strength of Spoolzs rapidly growing name, his first album, The Way I See It, would go on to sell an amazing 1000 units. It was only a matter of time before he started opening for acts like Lil Wayne, Lloyd Banks, BG and Stat Quo. He also performed at the prestigious TJs DJs conference and earned a spot on the conferences compilation CD. Hes been showcased on Pittsburghhiphop.com as artist of the month and featured on mixtapes by Down Magazine, DJ Furious Styles(Shine), and Blackhand(Ear to the Streets).
Having to recover from some major losses has given J. Spoolz the ability to make something from nothing. In an effort to capitalize on his full potential, he created New Money Music, an up and coming indie label. The label is gearing up to release its first mixtape entitled New Money Music Presents: Burghs Finest Volume 1. Records like Trigger Finger featuring Stat Quo and Comp are already gaining momentum in the streets and on the internet. Each day marks another step towards being dubbed The All-Star Champion.
