  • Bio

SevenKin, a colaboration of Rock, Metal, Blues, and Jazz formed in February of 2008. It all started when Steve "Woody" Wood was kicking around his house coming up with his own sound, and pretty much jamming by himself. Steve started with his first original working band Rocking chair, an acoustic based rock band, which disbanded a few short years later. He then formed working cover band, Myers Corner. The project lasted long enough to get the name out, and for the boys to have a little fun. The guitar was layed down a few times here and there, but never fogotten. .. .. Six years later, he befriended Larry Wininger through a mutual friend in a local Va. cover band. Larry was playing bass for Va. Beach based cover band, Hard Drive and was interested in what Steve was working on. They continued to build on a friendship as well as musicianship, getting together every once in a while laying down instrumental tracks. .. .. During the winter months of 2007, Steve Wood had placed an ad on Craigslist looking for a drummer to round out the sound a little more. Simultaneously, Kevin Gilkes had placed an ad on Craigslist as well, looking for a couple guys to "jam" with, while not wanting to get into anything too serious after just leaving a Norfolk,Va. based Black Metal Band. Steve made multiple attempts at trying to audition Kevin yet....no dice. .. .. In late January, 2008 Steve made one last attempt and Kevin conceded. Steve and Larry went out Va. Beach to "audition" Kevin and invited him out to Chesapeake for a jam session. The trio jammed once a week for a month or so, and realized they really had something good and wanted to venture a little deeper. .. .. That's when they decided to post yet another ad on Craigslist for a singer. Although they had only one response, it was a good one. David Floyd drove the 1.5 hour ride down from Williamsburg, to Chesapeake, Va. to audition. Dave hit the first high note with ease, and struck a few famous Jazz 7 & 9 chords to boot, and with that, he was hired as the singer and front-man for the un-named quartet. Floyd has worked along side numerous renowned singers, songwriters, and guitartists. .. .. The "SevenKin" name came about when Wininger took a short hiatus to finish out his cover band works. Now a trio, Floyd, Wood, and Gilkes along with input from family members came up with "SevenKin". The name is a result of the number of children the trio has between them. Wininger returned a few short months later to divulge into a whole new musical game. .. .. SevenKin reserved recording time with Vince Burke at Sniper Studio in Moyock,NC. and layed down eight tracks to complete their first demo c.d. SevenKin moved on to the local Tidewater Virginia music scene with a bang in November, 2008 and haven't looked back since. .. .. They've played shows with the best there is to find in their local scene and have gained respect in doing so. The members have pulled a few legitimate marketing stunts such as running their own radio ads on FM99-WNOR. They also participate wholly, and host charity benefit events for Saint Mary's Home For Disabled Children, Va. Beach. .. .. SevenKin has teamed up with Rob Beedie with Global Surf Netwok to raise monies and goods for injured soldier surfers on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. .. .. Be on the lookout for great things to come from these gents as they pound your head with melodic riffs, crisp-clean vocals, bass with enough groove to shred the tires off your truck, and drums with the beat of the march of the damned to come your way. .. .. Since the first song was written, SevenKin has set their sights on bringing Rock back to the people and digging deep into the roots of it all. .. .. ***UPDATE*** SevenKin has parted ways. Each member is going to be innvolved in different projects in the very near future. You'll still hear the SevenKin name every once in a while.
