DB Pacini's Interests
|
| General | I’m interested in individuals and organizations that are advocates for youth and environmental concerns. If you wish to know which organizations I support please visit the RESOURCES page of THE LOOSE END OF THE RAINBOW. If you know of worthy organizations that should be added to my list please send me their website addresses.
| | Music | In no particular order except the king has to be first: Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, The Traveling Wilburys, Jeff Lynne, k.d. lang, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Blood-Sweat-And-Tears, The Grateful Dead, The Eagles, Les Paul, Dire Straits, The Animals, John Mayer, The Who, Traffic, The Birds, Beach Boys, Paul Butterfield, Elvin Bishop, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, The Dave Matthews Band, Tim Reynolds, John Prine, Jason Wilber, Todd Snider, Kris Kristofferson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Ricky Nelson, James Burton, Everly Brothers, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Hank Williams, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Yardbirds, Cream, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, Stevie Winwood, Bob Marley and the Wailers, Peter Tosh, Norah Jones, Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker, Tina Turner, Billie Holiday, Hendrix, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder, The Band, Robbie Robertson, John Coltrane, Simon and Garfunkel, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Poco, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Diana Krall, Elvis Costello, Shania Twain, James Taylor, John Denver, Carol King, Donovan, Mimi Fariña, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, The Mamas and the Papas, Crosby-Stills-Nash-and-Young, Santana, Linda Ronstadt, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Derek and the Dominos, Rita Coolidge, Waylon Jennings, Joe Walsh, Toby Keith, Merle Haggard, John Mayall, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, Leonard Cohen, Bo Diddley, Bonnie Raitt, Patsy Cline, Tracy Chapman, Chet Atkins, Creedence Clearwater, Gary Duncan, Tommy Merry, Tim Grimm, Al Green, Mark Knopfler, Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, Randy Newman, Gram Parsons, Dan Fogelberg, Chris Isaak, Emmylou Harris, Kate Wolf, Maria Muldaur, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Steve Miller, Harry Chapin, Don McLean, Sarah Brightman, Barbra Streisand, Janis Joplin, Lyle Lovett, Loretta Lynn, June Carter, Mother Maybelle Carter, The Carter Family, Doc Watson, Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, Tchiya Amet, W. Earl Brown, Native Elements, Chester Miller, Bobby Aleman-M, Second Fiddle, Bunny Sings Wolf, Derek Van Choice, Martha Redbone, Tommy Wildcat, Lino Alibani, John Armen, David Friedenberg, Qua' ti' si' and Stringing Along Band. After I post these favorites I will think of more musicians and bands I should have included. See already: Wayne Renn, Frank Zappa, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the amazing David Grisman, David Bromberg, classical music, Celtic music, Woody and Arlo Guthrie, and forever loved Pete Seeger. Also, any musician or band that I have listed as a myspace friend since I first wrote this list. (This list will never be complete.)
| | Movies | I'm afraid I’d sound like Roger Ebert if I rattled off my favorite USA movies. Additionally: I'm mad about PBS movies, PBS Masterpiece Mystery Theater, Inspector Morse, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Prime Suspect, Dame Judi Dench in anything Dench does, and of course Agatha Christie's Miss Marple's and Hercule Poirot.
| | Television | 1. Don't have time to watch when preferred shows are on. 2. Hate TV commercials. 3. Have insomnia. Solution: Recording programs to view later. Watch them when I want and skip the commercials. Favorites: PBS, CSI Las Vegas, CSI Miami, CSI New York, Criminal Minds, Without a Trace, Cold Case Files, Forensic Files, The Cleaner, The Closer, The Mentalist, Saturday Night Live, Larry King, The Colbert Report with Stephen Colbert, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Ancient Discoveries, and Discovery Channel.
| | Books | I have many much loved authors ranging from the classics to contemporary; my list of favorites is longer than my musicians/bands list. I will say that my admiration for the following books helped inspire my fantasy novel, THE LOOSE END OF THE RAINBOW: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by J.R. R. Tolkien, The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame, Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, A Wonder Book for Girls and Boys by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, Harry Potter by J.K. Rowlings, numerous fairytales and folktales, especially Aesop’s Fables Brother Grimm stories, and Hans Christian Anderson stories.
Other authors who will always be on my short list: Coleridge, Wordsworth, Shelly, Emerson, Thoreau, Shakespeare, Rilke, Keats, Tolstoy, Kerouac-Brautigan-Snyder-Ferlinghetti-and various Beat poets, Vonnegut, James Joyce, Mark Twain, Dylan Thomas, Virginia Woolf, Jane Austen, Angelou Maya, Joyce Carol Oates, Barbara Kingsolver, Amy Tan, Nicholas Sparks, Stephen King, John Grisham, Toni Morrison, James Patterson, Dean Koontz, Scott Evans, and Anita Shreve.
| | Heroes | My heroes are ordinary men, women, and children (all over the world) who strive to be good people. They are kind to animals, non-violent, non-judgmental, and they believe in equal rights for ALL people. They are the millions of individuals that volunteer to do millions of little things that are extraordinary.
They are philanthropists who can only afford to give a few dollars at a time, a few hours at a time. They read to children, care about the elderly; they are the neighbors who help you move a bulky sofa, the friend that brings homemade soup when you have the flu, they are the struggling creative artists that donate their talents to worthy causes, they are the bright and shining stars of the earth instead of the glittery stars of Hollywood.
I'm not putting down famous philanthropists or Hollywood stars. There are several that I admire, they’re just not on my heroes list like public school teachers are. I’m hard pressed to think of anyone I admire more than a public school teacher.

About me:
I'm D.B. Pacini, a California songwriter/vocalist, poet, and the author of two novels, THE LOOSE END OF THE RAINBOW (published in March, 2009) and EMMA’S LOVE LETTERS (seeking publication), as well as numerous short stories. My email address is: Pacini.Novelist@gmail.com
I wrote the lyrics for a song that my friend Katy Brown arranged for me. Katy passed away in September, 2006. In her honor I share our song with you. She is playing the guitar and is singing. Please click on the song title:
YOUNG GIRL WITH FLOWERS.
"By working hard, old man, I hope to make something good one day. I haven't yet, but I am pursuing it and fighting for it."
---Vincent van Gogh

Who I'd like to meet:
Creative artists, especially writers and musicians, humanitarians, youth advocates, animal lovers, people who like to read, environmentalists, and one “passionately interested in my writing” literary agent. I also adore people who don't leave large images and self promoting ads for their projects in comment sections without making any comment. Have something to say to me, don't only advertise yourself. I’m all for promotions and networking, but connect with me, don’t just want me as your friend to raise your “friend count” number. That isn’t why I want to be your friend.
