Bio:

Na een poging tot klassieke viool in de muziekschool, ontdekt ze op vijftienjarige leeftijd de doedelzak in Gooik. Het Folkfestival Dranouter ziet er wat in en stuurt haar Europa rond ! Vele volksmuziekstages, optredens, Ethnokampen, opnames en groepjes later komt ze aan het conservatorium (Lemmensinstituut) terecht in de net opgestarte afdeling 'barokmusette en doedelzak'.
Later, een meesterdiploma rijker en na een overdosis Barok met o.a . een samenwerking met het Orkest van de 18de eeuw o.l.v. Frans Brüggen, stort zij zich weer volop in de folk met groepen als Griff, the BBGE, Transpiradansa, Bon matin! en Duo Fanfaar met Benjamin Macke. Na vele watertjes doorzwommen te hebben uiteindelijk actief als doedelzaklerares in de academie van Gent, Gooik en de vzw Muziekpublique.
Ook het muziekkamp Flanders Ethno en het Klein Kunstencentrum 't Smiske kunnen rekenen op haar enthousiasme en inzet. Een opera, folkbal, harmonie, den tap, dansinitiatie, muzieklessen of Russische liekes op accordeon: Birgit doet het allemaal ! :)

Après un avoir essayé le violon classique à l'école de musique, Birgit découvre, grâce aux stages de musique traditionnelle de Gooik, la cornemuse à l'âge de 15 ans. C'est grâce au Folk Festival Dranouter qu'elle découvre les différentes traditions européennes. Après une série de stages, concerts, enregistrements, et groupes, elle entre au conservatoire de Leuven pour y étudier la Musette Baroque et la cornemuse. Son diplôme en main après une overdose de musique baroque et une apparition dans l'orchestre 18ème de Frans Brüggen , elle resaute les 2 pieds joints dans le folk avec Griff, le BBGE (Belgian Bagpipe Groove Experience), Transpiradansa, Bon matin! et Duo Fanfaar avec Benjamin Macke. Birgit a donné dans le passé des cours à Muziekpublique et à présent aux stages de Gooik, et dans l'académie de Gooik et de Gent comme spécialiste de cornemuse et musique traditionelle. On retrouve Birgit dans l'organisation de Flanders Ethno et du 't Smiske. Opera, bal folk, harmonie, servir votre bière, initiation de danse, cours de musique, ou des chansons russes à l'accordéon: Birgit fera l'affaire!

After some years of learning classical violin in music school, Birgit discovered the bagpipes at the age of 15. A few years later she was spotted by the Dranouter Folkfestival as a young talent on the Belgian folk scene and was sent around Europe to represent the youngest generation of folk musicians in Belgium. A lot of folk music courses, gigs, ethno camps and bands later she found herself studying at music high school in Leuven (Lemmens Institute), as a student in the brand new department for Baroque Musette and Bagpipe. After obtaining a master diploma for her instrument and an overdose of Baroque music and an appearance in the orchestra of the 18th century, conducted by Frans Brüggen, she's completely back into folk with bands like Griff, BBGE, Transpiradansa, Bon matin! and Duo Fanfaar with Benjamin Macke . At the moment, she is a bagpipes specialist at the folk music courses in Gooik, musicacademy of Ghent, Gooik and Muziekpublique in Belgium. As well as this, she's an enthousiastic organiser for projects like Flanders Ethno and 't Smiske.
A Baroque Opera, a dance night, a harmony orchestra concert, a barwoman, a dance teacher, a music teacher, or a singer of Russian songs accompanying herself on accordion: whatever it is, Birgit can do it! :)' .. .. ..
