    .."Joanne Ramsay is like Kate Bush having had a head on collision with Jeff Buckley. Her haunting vocals and innocent piano playing style will leave you feeling mesmerized".. ..Joanne is originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, but now splits her time between the UK and LA. A self-taught musician, brought up listening to her Dads extensive Motown and Beatles Collection. Her taste then evolved into the likes of Kate Bush, John Lennon and The Blue Nile. "My musical tastes influence my own writing a lot and are wide and varied, but I remember the first time I heard Kate Bush singing 'This Womans Work' I was left feeling breathless and with an uncontrollable need to write a song like that. It's the possibility that you might affect someone so deeply that inspires me to write music".. ..Even though Joanne's first band received much critical acclaim from playing the clubs of Edinburgh, she decided in one night to pack her bags and head for the allure of London. "Literally 24 hours later, with all my belongings in the back of a hired transit van, I was driving south".. ..After arriving in London, Joanne continued to gain more experience as a working musician in the session world and on the live circuit, giving her the tools she needed to record her first album. Joanne's Debut 'Life Tastes Sweeter' has contributions from some of the UKs finest musicians, producer/engineers, who have chalked up time with the likes of Madonna, Van Morrison, Sheryl Crow, REM, Brian Eno, David Gray, Paul Weller, The Black Crowes and Nelly Furtado. There are echoes of Kate Bush and the song-writing nous of someone like Jeff Buckley is very evident in these strident songs which veer from the gloriously intimate to the sweepingly grandiose. On listening to the CD, this evaluation is suddenly rendered meaningless. Stripped down to just voice and piano; it is this minimalism on Life Tastes Sweeter that strips the record bare and reveals its cracked and frayed heart. This is a beautiful collection of songs, and there is an unashamed fragility present in each track. Opener 'Troubled Soul' is wholesome, awash with lush strings and soft rock guitars that crash and wash over angelic vocals, but Joanne is at her most intense when it is just herself and piano. The title track and 'For A Dreamer' is the perfect showcase for this. Life Tastes Sweeter is a solid debut to be proud of...
