My grandparent's packed up and drove the hillbilly highway from Lawrence Co, Ky to settle in the southend of Columbus, Oh. I grew up on country, honkytonk, and gospel standards: Johnny Cash, Waylon, the Redheaded Stranger, and "I saw the Light". I got my first guitar in the seventh grade and I'm still trying to figure out how to play the thing. In highschool I became interested in sk8 and bmx culture so I got into punk rock, starting with radio friendly ska bands like the Bosstones and Sublime, then moving on to bands like Rancid, the Misfits, Minor Threat, and Social D. At 19, me and some friends started a basement band, Dead Sailor, we never made it out of the basement, but we did record 4 tracks on a 4-track and played for our friends. After its' demise, I continued to write and play for my own amusement. Through the years I gravitated back to my roots of hillbilly music, but still held onto the urgency and sensibilities of punk and rock'n'roll.

Hi, Thanks for visiting our MySpace site and being our friend. We hope that all is well in your life. Black Angel released our third album in two years on Earth Day April 22, 2009. It is called "O' San Francisco". We asked Tiffany Lowe, granddaughter of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash (and daughter of country singer, Carlene Carter, and British rocker, Nick Lowe) to sing on the album. The top picture below is of Tiffany in the studio recording with us. The album is dedicated to a close associate of Black Angel who recently died who was a big Johnny Cash fan. We also have former Johnny Cash drummer, Danny Darling, playing on the album. We hope to be touring soon and we may be playing shows with former Black Angel singer, Audrey (Mrs. Ike) Turner. The bottom picture is of Black Angel playing at The Roxy in Los Angeles a few years ago with (left to right): Tomeka Haywood; me; Audrey Turner; and Ronnie Turner (son of Ike and Tina Turner on bass). Please check us out when we come to your town.

Nice style bro. The songs I have up are with some friends, but lately I've been just bangin out the tunes on my own. You have that country/folk meets Michael Ness type of vibe. Diggin it.
Thanks for the add! Kentucky's Rufus Huff debut CD now available on ZOHO Roots and Blues Boulevard Records.
Who's Rufus Huff? Named after two obscure Blues men Whistlin' Rufus and Luther Huff, the Glasgow, Kentucky-based Blues Rock quartet is made up of Dean Smith, Chris Hardesty, Jarrod England and Greg Martin, known for his raucous, incendiary electric guitar playing in the South's hardest country rockers, The Kentucky HeadHunters.
Rufus Huff, steeped in the tradition of Cream, Jeff Beck, Free, Led Zeppelin, Mountain, Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsies, Cactus, and ZZ Top!!!!
