This Memorial Day I was honored and blessed to meet and sit with two amazing ARMY Veterans. One is Col. Angela Orourke that was blinded and lost 50% of her brain function in the Gulf War after serving as a pilot for 21 yrs in the Active Duty ARmy. She had gotten her PHD in Psychology at the age of 20, 2 Bachelors degrees, and then joined the ARMY. After her permanently disabling injury, she had to relearn to talk, go to the bathroom and all the things we take for granted and learned as children. She is a remarkable hero and example to us all. She is a member of the LDS church and as she named her Guide Dog Faith, she has such incredible faith. HOw honored I am to serve great heroes like her and other wounded warriors here in UTah. The other Veteran of the Gulf War and two tours in Iraq with the UTNG 142nd MI that we shipped 310 very special from Utah Care Packages to in Afghanistan last year SSG Diamond, was there with his Hero BAnds made from parachute chord that he gives part of proceeds to Sub for a Hero program he started to support military families. SSG Diamond told me that he sometimes spent up to 73 days with no contact with anyone else, and when he and 7 of his guys got together to open those packages, and watched the Operation Ensuring Christmas Concert together on one laptop, ans saw all the Utah people that love them and Jill Stevens, Fellow UTNG and Miss Utah, it really made their time there easier knowing that so many people from home loved them and went out of their way to make all those special homemade chocolates, stockings, cards and DVD and CDS of music just for them. We hope to continue to send these special packages to all our Utah military serving overseas, and supporting their families with all we can back home. Come join us in this rewarding effort .
