The Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra will celebrate its 20th anniversary with the upcoming 2009-2010 season. Now in its 19th consecutive season at Northwestern University’s Pick-Staiger Hall, in Evanston, the orchestra has repeatedly won accolades from music critics and audiences alike and was named “Orchestra of the Year” by the Illinois Council of Orchestras for their 2001-02 season. The end of the six-month Lyric Opera season makes available a group of superb career musicians, meticulously screened from among the best for one of the country’s most coveted assignments, the Lyric Opera Orchestra. Lyric members, plus top flight area freelancers who have made music together for many years, have developed a special coherence of ensemble virtuosity that is clearly exhibited by the orchestra’s cadre of professionals.
