About me:

This page is a gathering spot for those of us who embrace our right to openly carry our guns.

Some of the reasons we carry firearms are:
     -For our own protection
-For the protection of those around us
     -To pro-actively deter criminals
-To exercise our 2nd amendment rights
-To educate and desensitize the public about firearms
-And because we just love our guns...

In Colorado, "open carry" (OC) is generally legal. There are no permits or licenses required to wear your firearm visible, just do it. However, there are restrictions and it's important to know them before carrying your gun openly.

There are places where we cannot OC. In some of these places a CHP (Concealed Handgun Permit) will allow you to carry your gun concealed. Being as this page is dedicated to OPEN CARRY, information specifically on concealed carry will be limited but can be obtained via the websites on the left and, yes, even on opencarry.org and you can always send me a message, I'll be happy to try and help.

Below is a list of where, by law, you cannot go openly armed:
     -Denver City/County (Liberal Law Zone)
-Any Federal property, buildings, or offices
     -Post Offices
     -Military Bases
     -School Buildings
-Within 1000' of a school (negated if you have a concealed weapons permit)
-Any area with metal detectors/security personnel at ALL entrances
-Any place posted as "No Open Carry" (building or specific area)

It is important to remember that any private business or property owner may ask you leave the premises because of your gun regardless of whether or not they have any signage up prohibiting guns or weapons. Failure to leave immediately when asked to could result in a trespassing charge.

In Colorado, OC is mostly a non-event and ignored by the majority of people. We are still viewed as an "old-west" state, where people are independent and strong. Plus with the hunting that our great state offers the sight of guns doesn't freak people out quite the same way it does for people in say, California, Illinois, New Jersey or Washington, DC. (Guns are basically banned there and they are all high in crime....does anyone really believe it's a coincidence?)

Understand your rights and know the laws!
This pamphlet contains information on open and concealed carry and can be printed out to give to anyone who is interested:

Feel free to use the comment box to post tasteful pictures and/or stories about your Open Carry experiences!

And take note: I am a supporter of OC, but not a lawyer. Make sure you understand the laws for yourself!
