my name is missy. i grew up on the east end of long island, ny. my parents say i was singing before i was speaking. and i was on stage by the age of 3. after high school, i went off to college, because that is what you do, or at least, that is what was expected of me, only to realize the hard way that college was not for me.
my first band popped up during those formative, short lived, college years, in the north shore of mass, when a series of loves and loves lost has a tendency to make those years potently residual. my writing became personal and poetic, and my sensibilities for the vaguely cryptic, more refined. in a sense... i was finding my voice.
i have lived my life on a stage. i have been folk, pop, rock, indie, acoustic, electric, ambient, full band, solo... i have sung in rock clubs, casinos, churches, festivals, coffeehouses, the shower, and (of course) at the top of my lungs, in my car. i have had long hair. short hair. dreadlocks. i've been blonde. brunette. fat. skinny. i've been public ...and private. and if i had let any of that define me, i would have been lost.
the stage, does not define a person, because the stage is not the scary part. it is when you step off the stage, back into reality, that the whole picture becomes frightening. the light is less forgiving, the sea of eyes more penetrating, and the curtain between me and the jury disappears.
one is defined by how they live when they are most vulnerable.
out of the spotlight...next to you.
i sing because i must. it is the one thing that resonates with my soul. i write songs because i can. because i should. because there is so much more than this. so much more than me. there is a bigger picture, and i want to be a part of it. The Painter is amazing. His work unmatched for excellence. so i will do my part. play my role. use what i have been given. and always be grateful.

by the way, the cd is amazing. just thought i would let you know.
It's a crazy thought.... but I think that Mick guy who plays bass for y'all looks like the Old Man of the Mountain... you know... in Franconia Notch NH? I guess he really does "Bring the Rock" :)
