"The Last Bio" :
Born Jacoby Jelks on December 15, 1979, J-Smoove (Smoove) has refined a unique, refreshing lyrical style destined to rival the most elite artists in the industry. Smoove channeled his near death experience (shot in the eye at the tender age of 10) into becoming a dynamic songwriter, producer and rhyme-deliver. Resultantly, Smoove has built a solid reputation and loyal following in the mid-south region of the U.S. His inspirations include the musical subjects, depths and writings of famed blues artists, such as Tyrone Davis, Otis Redding, Al Green etc., whose music he heard being played frequently as a youngster by his parents and their friends, also several hip hop artists including 2 Pac, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Notorius B.I.G., and more. Because of his love for deep soul and authentic hip hop.
Smoove's music delivers a unique blend of genres that sounds as if his soul is standing right next to you, giving you a listening experience unlike any other. Smoove is a true musician, having mastered the trumpet, keyboards, beat machines and computer software of today's music world. Beyond his musical skills, Smoove holds a degree in Mechanical Design and has a solid understanding of the business side of things, as he has functioned as CEO, engineer, producer, artist, vocalist, songwriter, manager and publisher for each of his releases. His accomplishments includes the 2000 release of an independent regionally distributed album entitled "Call Me Up", which allowed he and his siblings to travel the region performing with the likes of Three Six Mafia, Playa Fly, Al Kapone, Macy Gray, Lil' Wyte, and Mac E to name a few, all helping to accumulate over 1,000 copies sold.
Smoove then released "The Next Big Thing" (1,000 sold), which included the underground hits "Studio Gangstas" and "Shake It Down". The following albums were "Holdin' On" (1,000 sold), "The Higher Reality Mixtape" (1,000 sold), "The 'O' Mixtape" (1,000 sold) and "Street and Knowledge" (1,000 sold). Smoove has also produced and engineered a string of other up and coming artists. Jacoby has altogether sold over 6,000 units independently (and with today's CD burning technology, it's safe to multiply the above by 3). There are many followers, but very few true leaders. One being the one man band.........J-Smoove.
