Determined to reach the “4KORNERS” of the earth though music, this team is well on their way to truly living up to their name!
Based out of Toronto Canada, the world’s most multicultural city, 4KORNERS have grown up being exposed to an extremely unique mix of music, people & way of life that can only be experienced in such a place. Musically, hip hop, r&b, reggae, soca, house, electro, pop & rock were all equally popular & therefore allowed both Kap’n Kirk & Short Sirkit to develop a love for all genres very early in their lives. It is their urban beginnings mixed with their emersion into Toronto’s ever-popular electronic club scene, combined with Canada’s undeniable rock influence and topped off by their Caribbean family roots that truly separate 4KORNERS from the pack. They define their sound as HipHopElektroRok!
Kap’n Kirk, son of a musician, was born into music. Studying piano and woodwind instruments from the age of 8, it seemed clear that his path had been chosen. However, he didn’t take creating music seriously & focused on sports. He was a star athlete through high school, but soon, he found himself right back where he started. The turning point was when he did not make the varsity basketball team as a freshman in university. It was then that he put down the basketball & picked up his dad’s old records. Studying the work of popular local DJs at parties, he taught himself how to mix on his dad’s old turntables & after a few years in the basement, he and his former DJ partner, emerged as the young team to watch.
Short Sirkit, similar to Kirk, was also a star athlete, but he too was drawn to DJ culture & had toyed with the thought of starting a DJ crew. His only problem, none of his friends shared his passion. He spent his free time collecting mixtapes from local & international DJs, listening meticulously to what they played, how they mixed, and how the MC’s maintained the vibe & excitement. Being an energetic, outgoing person by nature, he secretly called himself Short Sirkit.
They were both mainstays on the local party scene, but it wasn’t until they both ended up working at the same summer job that they met & realized their natural team chemistry. It was then that Kap’n Kirk, Short Sirkit and their 3rd member at the time DJ Prophecy emerged as 4KORNERS, 2 DJ’s and Short Sirkit as MC. Unfortunately, non-related circumstances caused Prophecy to step out of the picture, but Kirk & Shorts carried on.
Since that point, the duo has gone from playing house parties, small local events and college radio to performing in virtually every major club & concert venue in the country (Guvernment-Toronto, Plush-Vancouver, Rum Jungle-Edmonton etc) and appearing on national TV & major commercial radio stations coast to coast (Muchmusic, CBC, CTV etc). They debuted overseas in 2006 on a small European tour and have since toured Europe extensively.
Their concert performances include shows & tours alongside Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, Busta Rhymes, Common, Fabolous, Ludacris, Nas, Lil Jon, Ray Robinson, Kardinal Offishall, In Essence, Keshia Chante and many more. They have also spun on the same bills with world-renowned local and international DJ’s including Jazzy Jeff, Bad Boy Bill, Paul Oakenfold, Starting From Scratch, Dr.Jay, DJ Sacha, Steve Lawler and many more. Add to that the exclusive engagements they’ve spun for Usher, Timbaland, Paris Hilton, Black Eyed Peas, Outkast, Hilary Duff, Alicia Keys, Nelly, Cuba Gooding Jr., Lil x, Swizz Beatz, Ciara, Chris Bosh & more and it’s no wonder why the demand for this team continues to grow. Everyone from Justin Timberlake, Tara Reid, Avril Lavigne, Brody Jenner, & Chamillionaire to countless sports superstars & local celebrities have been spotted frequenting 4KORNERS events.
As if all that wasn’t enough 4KORNERS are also the Official DJs of The TORONTO RAPTORS, Canada’s only NBA team, spinning LIVE in front of 20,000 screaming fans at all Raptors home games, which take place at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre. Providing the music, hosting, interacting with fans at games & making guest TV & event appearances in across Canada are just part of their duties with the Raptors & the NBA. They are also part of Canada’s top DJ coalition (Stylus All-Stars) & America’s top DJ coalition (The CORE DJ’s) and are sponsored by the clothing brands LRG, FRESHJIVE, LIVESTOCK & BIG IT UP.
Yet another chapter to the story, the duo have recently launched 4K RADIO, a radio show production company under which the show KLUB 4K is produced. Currently it is aired across Canada, Belgium & Greece, with more markets to be added soon. 4K also spins a weekly live-to-air night which airs in Toronto & Ottawa, Canada.
4KORNERS is currently playing regular weekly dates & special events in Toronto and across Canada, enjoying their 3rd season as OFFICIAL DJs of the TORONTO RAPTORS, and gearing up for a series of worldwide club dates scheduled over the rest of 2008.
