Proposal Overview "Banning
size zero" has been the slogon of the last two years. The Institutes
BMI index proves to be a more trustworthy method of regulating the
modeling industry. - Author: Institute of Modeling
The Full Proposal Ever
Since the tragic loss of Eliana Ramos and her sister Luisel from eating
disorders, the public has wanted a change to the way in which petite
models are exploited for their 'extreme' appearances. Banning size
zero is not the solution to the problem, better understanding of
nutrition is the better option.
Unfortunately the problem
with banning size zero is that there are naturally petite models who
would be disadvantaged through this option. Instead the method we have
adopted following consultation with various partners is that of a BMI
grading system. This system means that models under a 16 BMI or over a
30 BMI would be shown as 'non-conforming'.
Our advice is
that only models betwene 16-30 BMI be used by agents. Should an agent
use a model outside of this scope who then becomes ill because of their
size, we would investigate the agent for exploitation.
A range of advice is available from our partners should a model need help in maintaining a healthy balance.
Outcome These proposal are to be made legislation with the Institutes guidelines on November 2nd 2009. For more proposal and information about how we are improving the model industry, please view http://www.instituteofmodeling.org/LegislationProposals.asp
