Eat honey to reliefe your throat irritation... If you like milk: cup of hot milk+2-3 table spoons of honey (should be too sweet)+ 1 table spoon of butter... Drink hot and go to bed! This magic concoction works for me... Also hot tea+lemon+jam+rum/cognac/vodka works perfectly fine, too.. hehehehe 
and yeah... It might be a canadian thing.. hehe... I struggle... hehe
