In early 2004 Brandon Lee dreamed of playing live music at his own, forthcoming wedding reception, planned for June.
He recruited his uncle, Timmy K., an experienced, versatile drummer to his cause and became more determined to make his dream a reality.
Brandon Lee soon discovered that his cousin Amy’s husband of two years, used to play bass guitar. At that time Brandon Lee and Amy’s husband, Barry, (aka B.A.S), although having seen each other many times at family gatherings, had rarely spoken.
Brandon Lee approached B.A.S with his idea and the wheels were set in motion to learn a number of cover songs in time for the June Wedding.
Practicing every Friday night, the bond between Brandon Lee and B.A.S, developed from bandmate, to best friend and eventually to brother.
Friday nights, jamming and drinking became an addiction, the music became an integral part of life.
Shortly before Brandon Lee’s Wedding, after a long conversation, a decision was made. This band of brothers was no longer going to be a one time cover band. The connection was there to create something bigger and better.
After the Wedding Reception the cover songs would stop, they would write and perform original material with the intention of sharing their music with all who wanted to listen.
Every Friday night they would unite in laughing, drinking and creating.
Brandon Lee, Timmy K. and B.A.S needed a name for the animal that they had created, several were suggested, but none held true, until the night they began planning goals for the future:
Original material was being developed, songs were coming together and everything felt right, a pact was made to have a setlist of eight songs developed to perfection and gig ready in one year.
Time and beer blurs the memory, but the conversion went somewhere along the lines of:
“We’ll be on stage, playing a gig in one year”
“One year, that’s just 52 Fridays”
“52? F**k!”
And so 52F was born.
In the past few years, the line up of 52F has changed, but all the way through, it has been Brandon Lee and B.A.S’s dream to keep the monster growing.
52F has transformed from a band and a brotherhood, into a family.
It’s no longer just about the music and the musicians.
52F are the guys and girls that stick with us through thick and thin.
52F are the friends that are there at every gig.
52F are the people that drive us around, 52F are the people that take our photos, help with recording, ink our skin, criticize new material, 52F are even the few that tell us we‘ll never amount to anything, (they‘re the ones that motivate us to keep going).
52F are the people that will raise a glass with us and not just stand behind us, but beside us.
52F will be there for each other until the very end.
If you are 52F you will never stand alone.
52F may never be signed, 52F may never be a big thing, but you can bet your life that 52F will live on.
