Karl Hyde - Edgeland
April 2013 will see the release of Karl Hyde's debut solo LP, Edgeland.
It features nine tracks that were recorded over a year in London with multi-instrumentalist and producer Leo Abrahams (whom Karl met whilst collaborating with Brian Eno). Edgeland is a graceful and meditative collection that explores the limitless possibilities of what late film director Anthony Minghella christened 'esoteric Underworld' -- something that's existed on record since Dubnobasswithmyheadman.
Edgeland is released in Japan on April 10th and across the rest of the world on April 22nd on deluxe CD/DVD, standard CD, download and 12" vinyl.

Isles Of Wonder
Isles of Wonder: Music for the Opening Ceremony Of The London 2012 Olympic Games
Underworld's Rick Smith scored the Music for the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games, featuring many of the highlights of July 27th’s jaw-dropping show, including reworked tracks by the Chemical Brothers, Fuck Buttons, Blanck Mass, Arctic Monkeys, Emeli Sandé and Mike Oldfield as well as two huge new specially commissioned pieces by Underworld (the fifteen minute Pandemonium section soundtrack And I Will Kiss and Caliban’s Dream, the musical announcement of the Olympic torch’s arrival in the stadium).
Talking about the ideas that forged the music on Isles of Wonder, Rick says, “Music is Britain’s cultural heartbeat; it’s a perpetual act of revolutionary thought. From William Blake to the Beatles via the Clash and the Chemical Brothers, the soundtrack to our lives fizzes and hums all around us like a stray signal from a radio dial that your internal antenna just can’t help but tune into.”
The soundtrack was released as soon as the Ceremony finished on all major digital platforms. A physical release via Decca Records will be available on August 6th. The soundtrack is split into two sections – the first represents the music from the main show; the second is the soundtrack to the athletes parade. It features reworked versions of Underworld classics (many of them by Scribble collaborator High Contrast) alongside a set of handpicked tracks that were chosen specifically for the event.

Bio
In these days of endless band reformations, avalanches of reissues and shamelessly repetitious 'creativity', too many artists are willing to sign away their soul for a little extra time on the career clock. Too many of them see artistic expression not as an end in itself, but as a shortcut to celebrity and are obsessed with their destination, rather than engaged by the journey. Too few of them, frankly, are like Underworld. An incredible 27 years after their birth in Romford, Essex as a trio and 15 years after they pressed up their debut single (500 copies of the Balearic twofer, 'Mother Earth'/'The Hump'), Rick Smith and Karl Hyde are still enjoying the ride, grinning like kids as new vistas unfold before them. It's been a long and exhilarating trip – and it's not over yet. -
