A GOOD BYE TO THE 555 <3
The 555 will be changing locations AGAIN for the same 'ol unethical "creative class" problem of some landlords using artists to market real estate by cleaning up and revitalizing their buildings, then forcing them to leave. 4884 Grand River Ave had four good years of renovation and transformation into a community arts space. The thousands of volunteer hours and the 100's of thousands of dollars in improvements and rent for the building will be missed and not forgotten. The 555 is searching for a new home.
The 555 will be having their LAST SHOW at the 4884 Grand River location on February 21st from 8pm-12am
Artistically proven, a mask will enhance your sense of Sight, Sound, Smell, Taste, and Touch. The Five Senses Masquerade and Art Experience is looking for submissions of multi-media art, interactive art, installations, performances, and art works exploring and pushing the limits of our five senses. A Masquerade atmosphere accompanies opening night; attendants are encouraged to design their own mask.
The 555 cordially invites you to "The 5 Senses" in celebration with the season of love. The evening's debauchery of art and sensory overload includes:
Live Art!
Performances
Music
Words
Happenings
Actions
Removals
Deconstructions
and much much more!
This night is your chance to show your dedication and support of the 555 Gallery and Studios. Through fundraising events such as these, we will continue to further enrich and diversify culture and creative life in the greater Metro Detroit area. Your attendance is requested for this final event at 4884 Grand River Ave, as the organization will soon move to a new home.
$15 will call @ www.555arts.org
$20 sliding scale at the door
All proceeds will go to support the work and establishment of a new location for the 555.
This will be a masquerade so dress appropriately please. For those arriving without a mask, some masks will be available at the door for a nominal price.
The core mission of 555 Studio / Gallery is to further enrich and diversify
cultural life in Metro-Detroit. In support of this mission 555 facilitates the development
of emerging artists. We offer exhibition/installation space, lead and collaborate in
the development of programs for the visual and performing arts, and provide affordable
workspace for practicing artists (STUDIOS ARE AVAILABLE).

TO: ONE AND ALL FROM: THE FOLKS AT THE PEOPLE’S ART FESTIVAL RE: RAIN DATE
DETROIT – Due to the strong possibility of severe rain this Saturday (9/13) the People’s Art’s Festival will be postponed until Sunday September 21.
“We regret having to make this decision,” said Chris Mihailovich, who manages the Russell Industrial Center and is one of the Festival’s initial founders. “We are grateful to the artists, filmmakers and musicians who have worked so hard to make the Festival a success, but we feel postponing the Festival a week will be better for participants and certainly better for attendees.
”
“Our thanks go out to the entire Detroit artistic community,” Mihailovich said. “Hopefully on September 21 they’ll join us to make this year’s Festival a success.
”
The People’s Arts Festival is held annually at the Russell Industrial Center, 1600 Clay in Detroit.

GreenCurrents or Greenwashed?.. .. Has DTE Energy's massive green marketing campaign made you one of the 14,000 customers who have signed up for their "GreenCurrents" program? If so, we're sorry to tell you that the premium you are paying on your monthly electricity bill has bought no new renewable energy - not a single environmentally friendly electron is flowing to your house or business from Detroit Edison's power grid because of GreenCurrents. Worse yet, Detroit Edison (DTE) spent over 85% of its "GreenCurrents" program money on marketing and administration, leaving only 15% to purchase renewable energy certificates (which is not the same as actually buying renewable energy) in its first year... .. Fortunately, the Ecology Center and city of Ann Arbor are proposing a better way for DTE customers who want to truly support and benefit from renewable energy. Our proposed program, which is based on a highly successful program in Texas, requires DTE to directly purchase Michigan-based renewable energy and provide the benefits of price stability and a cleaner electricity system to you - with no corporate spin or spending on greenwashing. Unfortunately, DTE is doing everything in its power to stop its customers from having an option that is green without greenwashing... .. So, please send an email to the Michigan Public Service Commission about your support for the Ecology Center's proposed program and with your concerns about DTE's "GreenCurrents"... .. TAKE ACTION NOW!}
ONE WEST NINE is a brand new gallery that I have been working on for the past few months. Our mission is to create a place where artists have the chance to present their works. This is an experiment and we would love to have you come be a part of it. See you soon, Scott Love
Thanks for the friendship 555 Gallery. I really like your art collective and admire the talent behind it. I look forward to browsing your imagery for motivation and inspiration. I wish you a most creative day!
