| General | I am endlessly fascinated with my own navel.
Beyond that, writing, reading (everything I can get my hands on), stories (as told in all media), esoteric knowledge that's of no use whatsoever in day-to-day life, UFOs (I saw one once. It was surprisingly unaffecting), using the letter of certain rules I dislike to undermine their spirit...
Mostly, I'm interested in what's going on in the world, but at the same time, I generally want nothing to do with it. The world bugs me. | | Music | My all-time favourite album is Pop Will Eat Itself's BOX FRENZY. My favourite David Bowie album is OUTSIDE. I need to get more Dandy Warhols music soon. | | Movies | I have trouble with movies these days. I know too much about them to enjoy them much. Probably the best-constructed movie I've ever seen was Oliver Stone's JFK. It's pure fiction, but it's a wonderful piece of filmmaking. | | Television | MONK, SUPERNATURAL, DOCTOR WHO, SOUTH PARK, CHUCK... DOLLHOUSE got there eventually, but those first half dozen episodes were a slog... | | Books | I'll happily read anything by Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, Terry Pratchett, Jasper Fforde, Christopher Brookmyre, Douglas Adams, Julian Barnes, Iain Banks, Irvine Welsh, and many, many more whose names escape me at the moment. |

About me:
I write stuff.
I get paid for it, more often than not.
I don't get paid enough for it, more often than not.
But I get paid more than most for it. So that's all right.
I live in Edmonton, Alberta, with my lovely and talented wife, Tiina, two lovely but utterly talentless cats, and a dog who can sing on command, which isn't much of a talent, but it's more than the cats have going for them.

Who I'd like to meet:
The guy who came up with bank service fees. And I'd like to be holding a large club-like object, a baseball bat or maybe a mace, when I did it.
