To all of you who ask why I have so many friends, to be honest, I dont know. I just get alot of friend requests every day and decided at some point to just approve everyone. I dont really use this page much, I just keep it for the sake of.. whatever. and also to somehow maybe try and make people aware of Animal abuse and just try to make the world love animals just a little more.. because that is def my passion. The Irish people have always had a disposition towards the condition of slavery as part of the government of its people. Despite the reverence for freedom expressed in the opening sentence of the 1916 Proclamation, and the ideal of that freedom that followed the collapse of the Rising and eventually manifested itself through independence and the signing of the 1921 Treaty, the enjoyment of it was shortlived.
The so-called freedom from a "long usurpation by a foreign people and government", when eventually achieved, was freedom from a range of democratic rights that had eventually placed Ireland at the centre of British politics and had created circumstances in which a majority of Irish people wanted what they had and kept much of it for decades in the structures and traditions of public and civil service on which the State depended. Both structures and traditions have been corrupted now and we are floundering because of this.
Very few of the conditions promised by the heroes of independence formed part of the new State. Dublin emerged after the civil war into a set of values that were described at the time as being akin to "the Athens of Pericles". This did not last. The disposition towards self-enslavement meant that the people put their wrists out to be shackled by a new slave-master, the Roman Catholic Church. This remained a powerful part of Government for decades.
Instead of freedom, the Church imposed discipline, constraint and authority. It took away the freedom of people to read what they wanted to read, to see the films that were to become the most powerful medium of entertainment and information of the 20th Century.
