    About Original Mechanical Mouse: INTRODUCTION: This is the third year of Joel Collinsworth working as "Original Mechanical Mouse." The music is a blend of indie-folk in the spirit of Elliot Smith, Ray Lamontagne, Modest Mouse, Mountain Goats, Fleet Foxes, and soul. But even this description seems wanting, so it's best to listen for yourself. The '"Small Dreams 2012" tour covered five states and nine cities. Contact joel@ommfan.com for bookings. OMM is a self-produced singer-songwriter who mostly solos. His sound has been compared to Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver by Canadian Music Guru Alan Cross, but OMM seems more like an Elliot Smith, Bright Eyes, or maybe Ray Lamontagne kind of artist as well. His music doesn't fit just one category or genre, but if it had to be labeled it would be indie-folk-pop-soul. BIO: OMM's style is intimate. He likes building rapport with the audience to make a connection with them personally. His music incorporates folk, rock, soul, and some kind of crazy rhythms that seem maybe rooted in Latin music. 'Indie' if it means anything is the notion of doing musically what serves the song's lyrics—that's what OMM says he does and what his style is. A few of his influences are: Andrew Bird, Andy Hull, Aly Spaltro, Annie Clark, Conor Oberst, Elliot Smith, John Darnielle, Nick Drake, Sam Beam, Jim James, The Shins, and Spoon. Joel strives to be different. Sometimes his unconventional meters, verse lengths, and things like the arc of his songs aren't what you anticipate. OMM doesn't sound a lot like anyone else you hear on the indie* circuit—although comparisons are necessary. Mouse's musical range goes from songs that rock out, to delicate songs such as "She's not the Kind of Girl" and "I Might Be Me". His finger-picking songs such as "Oceans of Enchantment" have an ethereal feel, while "The Cure" (one of his early 2013 songs) is reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen un-plugged. Early in his work as Original Mechanical Mouse Joel became known for his edgy faster songs like "Just Add Water" and "My Dinosaur" (AKA the Dinosaur song) Some of his other notable works include "Love Me Not" & "Smile Like Wine" and "Illinois" written in the summer of 2011 His newest song of particular note is "The King and Queen of Nothing" Behind the Music Footnotes: OMM lives in Rockford, IL about 25 miles from the Wisconsin border. His early life as a child was a tormented one at the hands of an untreated schizophrenic, manically depressed, mother and a father who was eventually committed for mental evaluation and diagnosed as a psychopath. Joel seems to have been the only survivor as his only brother in late adolescence developed MPD. Joel's second family saved the day so-to-speak so it's not a total bummer. But with the new relationship came drugs and alcoholism, heroin addiction, and just about anything those problems bring. ABOUT THE BAND NAME: Occasionally someone asks how I came to choose the name "Original Mechanical Mouse." Well, the story goes like this: At the time I chose my band name I was really into listening to "Modest Mouse" and "Danger Mouse" - see links below - and I guess their names and my weird off-beat personality just mish-mashed in my head with an idea that the mechanical mouse is still useful but just functioned differently than laser based mice, that's when I felt like that it was a name meant to be.
