  • Bio

I was born in Sweden, 1993, and raised in a town called Tanumshede which is also in Sweden. My life as a musician began when I got introduced to a guitar. I started playing it for several years and felt like making my own music, but I was unable to since I couldn't playanything else, nor did I know how to do it. So I stopped playing guitar and jumped on the keyboard-train instead where it all pretty much just took off. I always get reminded of that one time when my older sister and our mother were trying to play Celine Dion's 'My Heart Will Go On' on the keyboard. However, they were both unable to and they had no sheet-music. At that moment, I decided to give it a try and I pulled it off right after hearing the song on the TV; I could mimic notes by only listening to a track, once. This asset came to use when I decided to try out DAWs (Digital Audio Workshops) for the first time. A friend of mine introduced me to the world of DAWs and what you were able to do with them in early 2008. I fell in love with it in an instant and have been using it ever since. In early 2009 I registered to a website called "Elektrozon" where I published all my old work under the name "DJ Masteriusm". Thi website came to me as a tip from my brother who, back then, knew someone who had made a huge success from it's twin-site; "Frizon". This made me do everything in my way to get as good ratings as possible on that website. However, since I was new to music-production back then I had no idea what I got myself into. My tracks were rreally badly mastered, I had no effects, didn't know what I was doing and the critism from the members pretty much killed me. I didn't give up though.. In late 2009 to mid 2010 I had a break due to school. This break ended with a summer filled with music and some time to figure out all of the components I could use in my music. It was here where I realized that my genre was not what I thought it would be.. I tried to make Trance, but i sucked at it so I tried to make something else; a down tempo, slow beat, R'n'B kind of thing. This ended with "Touch", "Dripping" and "Tears From Heaven". However, this was not my thing either, even if the tracks did sound great they didn't resemble my passion for music. Late 2010; A name change. I shorted down my name to DJM instead of 'DJ Masteriusm' because so few were able to actually pronounce my name properly. It was also at this time when I decided to try a new genre; House. I had always been a fan of house, electro, progressive etc. My biggest idols back then was Daft Punk, and their music was so new to my ears but yet old on paper. It was great! I tried to mimic their tracks, but failed, and got back again but this time with my own sound. I had achieved something I always dreamt of; My own sound. Mid 2011; Summer begins and my experience with music has increased a lot! This summer must've been my most "break-less" one ever. I spend 9 hours a day 4 – 5 days a week doing nothing but trying to make music. It was also at this time where I decided to share my music on a more public level, so I created a souncloud account and started sharing my tracks. I also shared the tracks through my personal facebook-profile which many liked and others didn't. This made it clear to me that I need a platform for myself so I could share my music with those who were interested in it; a Facebook Fan-page. As of 19th June, 2011 I was now accesible through Facebook as an artist. Right after the creation of this fan-page I made an account over at "MyDJSpace" and started uploading my tracks there as well. This website was also a tip, but not from my brother, but instead from a friend of mine who were in the music industry way before I even thought about it. Anyway, after a while the members of 'MDS' came to acknowledge me and listen to my creations. I made contacts within the music industry and it was at this moment when I decided to go full-scale with my work. This summer ended with one of my title-tracks; "The Puppet Master" and also the very much liked; "Bionic". At the end of 2011 I released my first EP; 'The Puppet Master'. Once it got to Spotify I started sharing it on Facebook, Soundcloud and more. Thanks to the release people started to pay some interest in my music, which was the plan from the beginning. This was good way to end my 2011. 2012 began with a small twist; people loved my music, but it was only momentary. I started to realize that my EP, 'The Puppet Master', was not meant for computer speakers. It was meant for a big stage, with a huge crowd. This however was something I had not yet achieved. But I was getting there, slowly but steady. As of today my music is growing and so are my experiences. I'm doing the best I can to get myself gigs all over the place where ever, whenever. Since I graduate from school this year I have more time to dedicate to my music, which will hopefully lead me to the gigs at festivals one day in the future. I want my music to get out there to rest of the world due it's unique sound and because it's the perfect 'on-stage' music. If you listen to it at, let's say a festival, you would not stand still even if you hated the genre. //Joakim Nilsson, Also known as DJ-M.
