Creative influences span from various artists and genres such as: KRS-1, Rakim, Run DMC, Slick Rick, Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang Clan, The Roots, Outkast, Busta Rhymes, Ras Kass, Kanye West, Common, Talib Kweli, Missy Elliot, Timbaland, Dr. Dre, The Neptunes, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, James Brown, D’Angelo, Michael Jackson, Prince, Sade, Jill Scott, Rage Against the Machine, Jimi Hendrix, and the list goes on…
5 Days Left are lyricists M.E.R.C.U.R.Y., Elly Estro (aka Serious Black), and producer Serge the Wrecknition. They established themselves in the group Ill Nature in 1994, as they balanced high school academics and recording music . In 1996, Serge made a plan to produce and market an independent album. Ill Nature completed their first album, "Lifeline in the Hands of Time", in 1999. After the Ill Nature project, M.E.R.C. and Serge gained a tremendous understanding in the entire album production process independelty, as they managed everything from recording, to mixing, mastering, promoting, arranging artwork, and manufacturing CD’s. Their musical knowledge expanded further as they developed their skills as live Hip-Hop performers.
At the end of 1999, M.E.R.C and Serge decided to form a sub-group of Ill Nature, under the name of “The Illuminatives.” in 2002 they completed their album "Birth of a New Beginning". M.E.R.C. and Serge display their musical versatility in songs such as the energy stirring “Activated” and “Soul Glow,” to the socio-politically conscious “How Can You Win?”, “Gemini-Complex”, and “Child Support.” Elly Estro is an original Ill Nature member who often accompanied The Illuminatives during performances. Elly brings an extraordinary flavor to several tracks, including “Lo Siento,” “Fat Cakes,” and “January 1st.” After their run as "The Illuminatives", M.E.R.C., Serge, and Elly decided to become one unit under the new name 5 DAYS LEFT.
